When you first opened how much dollar wise did you have invested in lotions? Did you have replacement lamps stored just in case the lamps that came with your bed decided to throw a hissy fit on the day you opened?

Several thousand in lotion - I think it would be hard to have enough choices in both packettes and bottles for less than $1000.

No replacement lamps. You don't have issues that often, and when you do, they can get one out within a few days. However -- when you re-lamp -- always order a few extras (I try to get to the next full case when I can), because you may have some "duds", breakage, etc.

I had about $2000 (cost) in lotions when I opened. Like sunsally, no extra lamps at opening but always order to the next full case or at least a couple spares when re-lamping.

now that i think back i grossly underestimated the amount of lotion i would move. i think i had about $300 on hand ...wow has that changed

huh! When I bought my salon there were a mighty 9 bottles of really crap lotion and about 28 hot packets...

I'd say I still have less than $500 worth now... my theory being I'd rather have less & re-order more often, than have stuff sitting around for month after month.

I take it back... a quick think thru says more like $700 in house right now... but I still almost never order more than 3 of any 1 bottle at a time...

Same as glotan... had a whopping total of 5, yes, 5 bottles of lotion when I took over. spent about 2K on lotions and packets to get going. now i never reorder more than 3 of a kind either. no back up lamps on start up but the same as everybody else on that too.

About $4000.00 (salon cost) in lotions. AG, SB, & CG. Shipped it all back cause no one would buy it and got DS, Supre, & Fiji. Now we only carry DS & Hempz.

And no back up lamps.

I worked it to get $1700 (salon cost) worth of lotions from my tanning bed distributor. So they were 'thrown in' so to speak. No up front purchase of lotions.

I'm with GloTan - I only stock 3 of each kind - I don't want stuff sitting on my shelf.

I made the mistake, though, of selecting a few of every type of lotion, e.g. a tingle, a tingle with bronzer, a tingle with a bronzer and a cooler, a cooler, a cooler with a bronzer, etc. Instead, most of my customers (well, I've only been into this for 2 weeks, so from what I've learned already) prefer just an accelerator with bronzer. I've already sold out of my Worship and Hempz Hydroponic Bronzers and have reordered more. People here seem to like the basics without all the 'different' ingredients.

I didn't stock lamps for my opening - I just shelled out $70k for beds - they better work!! Plus, my disty is great!! He was out here for opening and checks on me regularly.
