Re: What is The Youngest Age A Salon Can allow A person On The Sunbeds????......
Rules are really strange sometimes. We can't sell cigarettes to kids under 16, nor alcohol, but tanning is no problem. On the other hand you have to wait till you're 18 before you can get a driving licence...

MARCA! I'm shocked at that statement. I never thought you would compare tanning with alcohol and cigarettes!
We are forbidden by law from telling our customers that there are positive benefits to tanning, but I would have thought that we, as salon owners, would be convinced that there are benefits. If it is a bad thing, don't tan anyone. If it is a good thing, why would you exclude children? When I was I child, I was plagued with allergies. I tested to be allergic to beef, pork, eggs, sugar, milk, grass, house dust, etc. I was basically allergic to almost everything they tested me on. The doctor's recommendation was for my mother to make me play outside more without a shirt on. The reasoning was that the sun would help "clear up" my allergies. Guess what... It WORKED! I got better. I still have problems with pollen and house dust, but much less than when my eyes would swell shut when I was a kid. BTW, I am talking about the mid to late 60's. All this "New" research that you are seeing on the benefits of vitamin D and sun exposure were just considered common knowledge back then. That was before the derms started on their rampage against the sun. Marca, I am not picking on you, but that statement really shocked me. Are you sure that is the way you feel? |

Re: What is The Youngest Age A Salon Can allow A person On The Sunbeds????......
Maybe it came out wrong :-) No I'm not comparing tanning with alcohol and cigarettes at all! What I mean to say is that the rules are strange in the sense that our governments decide for many things at what age you can do things, while that should - in my opinion - in many cases be at your own judgment.
That's why I find it strange that in the US ín some states you can't tan under 18, but you are allowed to drive from 16. In the Netherlands there is no age limit at all, but on the other hand we have to wait until we're 18 to drive. I understand that it is all designed to protect us, but on the other hand I would like people to be free enough to make their own decision. Especially when governments have such different views on these subjects. I was NOT comparing it in the health sense AT ALL. Don't get me wrong Billable. That's why I also find it strange that you are not allowed to advertise with the health benefits. We here in Holland luckily are. |

It reads the UK goverment guidelines on children and sunbed use. Every UK sunbed shop must be a member of this associations and follow their guidelines and practices. Thought u all may like to take look at it............ http://www.sunbedassociation.org.uk/under16s.htm |

So is the Sunbed Association a governmental body?
Because in the Netherlands we have an association too, but they give only guidelines. |
