Ok, well with that being said carribean tan man, what is my best plan of attack for this in your opinion? It is currently breaking even at about 4K per month.

Re: Brand New Owner with Questions!!!!!!

Naterichie -

I sent you a PM (it'll show up at the top under "messages", in case you don't know since you are new here -- I didn't know at first!).

That it only takes $4k/month to break even is surprising news, but good news! It seems that would probably be just a little more than your payroll alone since payroll (with taxes, fees) is typically around $3K/mo (12 hour day x 30 days in a month x $7 hour x 1.2 to add a "bump" for the taxes, fees, commissions, etc). So are you saying your rent, utilites, phone, advertising, business loan, etc etc etc --- along with payroll --- only adds up to $4K/month?

That you are the only "real salon" for 20 miles -- in a Chicago suburb -- is also surprising but good news! At least for now, that gives you a great advantage since one of the toughest part of the market for tanning is the gross saturation you see in most places.

Now -- to make it competitive? That'll depend on your room sizes, what electric they ran, how much A/C, etc

More later..........

Re: Brand New Owner with Questions!!!!!!

She is the only salon in a 20 Mile radius. MAYBE in the centeral part of the state but not close to Chicago. You do know what a 20 Mile radius is right?

Yes. That would be a radius of 20 miles.

Re: Brand New Owner with Questions!!!!!!

First off, what beds cost have nothing to do with the actual value of a turn key business. Yeah, you can get any bed for $5K if you look hard enough. Getting it to your salon, installing it, making sure there's enough electricity etc, the build out, the clientèle, the area, the building, if there are even other spots available, if there are any salons around, did you pay cash, did you take out a loan on a loan on a loan, is the place even making rent...

THAT'S what costs ya. NO BUSINESS COSTS $4K. You can't even get a lemonade stand for $4k. That's stupid talk.

Do the math, figure out how much it's going to cost ya to run the place and then see if you can actually make that money with your current setup. If you can, you are fine. If not, then you have to do a little work that may or may not involve some upgrading.

Most of the used equipment out there is thanks to it pulling a negative revenue as in they charged $12 and it cost $15 to run. Do not buy equipment that you cannot sell in your salon.
