opening a tanning salon-help
hi
looking into opening a tanning salon in my town, im looking at a space with 1200 sq ft... thinking of putting probably 6- 8 tanning units in the salon.. can people give me some input on what tanning beds and standup selection i should have for my customers? i was thinking of 4 beds and 2-3 standup..would like sun capsules for standups. beds recommendations?? would like to offer a variety of beds for the customers as far as basic bed thru Hp units... also how do you feel about T-max to handle the beds and such.??? also any preference on leasing beds or standups, i know suncapsule has a flex plan is it any good or worth doning or would u recommend purchasing tanning unit outright??? thanks whit been reading alot on this site and all the different info people give , gets very confussing on whats beds and equipment to use... |

Re: opening a tanning salon-help
Your going to have even more confusion by asking that question. Everyone is going to give you there opinion on what they think you should do and what eqqipment you need.
First thing you need to do, check out what the comp. has and go from there. You need to do a business plan to see if you can even make money on this venture. If you need help, I can walk you through it as well as give you some advise along the way. There are others on here that can do the same. When you come on here asking Quote:

Re: opening a tanning salon-help
You don't need that many stand ups. They were good back in the day of small 20 minute beds. Mine has the least amount of hours of all my beds.
Asking what bed is best is like asking what the best flavour of ice cream is. Everyone has their opinions. Just pay attention to the ones that most people say to stay away from which is mostly ETS. And TMax is a good idea.

Re: opening a tanning salon-help
Get a lot of catalogues and go through them all. Check out all the beds and prices.

Re: opening a tanning salon-help
I always recommend Tan America and Ergoline for professional reasons. You'll get recommendations from everyone based on their own experience with the equipment they've had or heard about. Just remember the advice here is free, so don't go asking for any refunds if you aren't 100% satisfied with the advice you get.
![]() As for your mix, with an 8 unit salon, I advise (from my default file) to go with four 20 min units(28-32 100w lamps), tWo mid-level (15 min 36-42 lamp w/facials) units, one "OMG this is cool unit!" (12 min, 50+ lamps w/facials and adjustable intensities and fan speeds), and one stand-up (The Sun Capsules tan great, are easy to maintain and repair, and would be a good choice - but not my first). I can't say this is the perfect mix for you and your unique circumstances, but 9 times out of ten it's not bad shooting from the hip to start out. There are also qualified consultants in the industry that may be of some help to you. Having said that, hope this helps. Good luck! -Belvy

Re: opening a tanning salon-help
Yes, one vertical unit without a doubt. Also do a business plan that was suggested, check out your competiton and most of all do your home work and have a professional salon owner (sucessful) give you some good pointers. To me location and parking access is the first issue before you even get started. Then think about lease options on the building, electrical cost, buildout construction, insurance, etc. There is alot to learn and you can get the help on this site from most. Visit salons that have the equipment your thinking about, tan in them. Do a search on this site for various pieces of equipment etc. Better hurry if you plan on making busy season..... Good Luck

Re: opening a tanning salon-help
First you must make sure you are ready to make equipment choices. Have you established exactly how your price structure and marketing program will work and why? Have you designed your floor plan and salon packaging? Have you written your employee training manual? These are just a few of many things that must be determined before choosing equipment. At that point which equipment will best support your marketing program not what other salon owners like.
