FYI-99% of Bank out there do not like to loan money for tanning salons, PERIOD! It's just one of those things.

You should work on a relationship with a bank, meaning, your assests, checking, savings, etc. etc. in there, get a few small loans from them, then you will be surprised at what they will give you!
Creating a relationship with your bank is a great idea. Preferred SBA lenders are fine with financing tanning salons if you have a great business plan.

Why you never post anything until its time to do advertising for your services? Im not trying to pick on ya but w/your knowledge you should post more instead of trying to use free or lowcost avenues to advertise your service.

You might want to do a search, I share information on this forum quite frequently. As far as free or low cost avenues of advertising, these are exactly the path that a salon owner should follow. Email advertising, high school and collage papers, apartment newsletters and welcome packets are just a few of the low cost effective methods of advertising. And yet you see this as a bad thing, take your blinders off and think outside the box. Tantalk is a very effective place for me to reach clients. People come here looking for exactly what I provide, the path to success.

Here is some free advice for you. I visited your web site, it is very nice and it looks like you have a beautiful salon. However your price structure is costing you business and you should never post your pricing on your web site. You want tanners to visit your salon so they can experience what makes you different from the competition. By posting prices you are reducing it to a price issue. You should only post your leader specials that will entice tanners to visit your salon. While in the salon you have a much better opportunity to make the sale. Instead of pricing if you had a coupon for new tanners that offered one week free tanning or buy a month get a free bottle of lotion, this would insure that that person would visit your salon. If I have found cheaper pricers at other salons than yours I may go their instead and never have an opportunity to experience why your salon is much nicer and is worth the higher price.

Re: The Dream and Struggles of Opening a New Salon

Thanks for the advice I would have to agree with you, but doing this way has increased my business 10 fold. I use Zyman Group to help with my marketing and I did not show the prices on my last website before we redid the website.

People want to see before before the touch. funny I am more the other way around but nowadays people are not. Not showing some prices makes people feel as thoe you are hiding something. Plus the prices on my website isnt even my bread and butter. barley do people even buy what is said on website. But again thanks for looking out thoe and keep up the work that you do.

I only put specials and such up on the website. My philosophy is to get them through to the bed and then up sell them once they are in the salon. do what ever you have to to get the door swingin.

Re: The Dream and Struggles of Opening a New Salon

truthfully we shouldnt have to hide our prices or anything like that. Its kinda sad if we have to hide something to get someone in our stores. would anyone like it if Macy's, Target, or any Major department store didnt tell us a price of something. Or if we call and ask for a quote someone said "I dont know I have to come out and check". None of us would like that or what if we were asking about a price of a bed or lotion and the person said I cant tell you I have to come visit and talk with you first.

None of us would like it so why do it to anyone else? If this works for you by all means please dont stop keep doing it. Everyone business is different and only you should know how to run your own business.

Your web site is advertising. Give a picture of who you are and offer a special that will bring them in. When in the store they get all of the pricing and also see the value because they associate it with the salon experiance. Just a thought.
