Thinking about opening new tanning salon
Hello, I just found this forum today and have found alot of useful info. (and yes I read the thread about the possible salon to be opened in MI)
Basically, I've wanted to open a tanning salon for years. My location is a smaller town (about 7,000 pop.), just outside of a larger city. The area is one of the fastest growing areas in this part of MI. The only places to tan are a couple of units located in a couple salons in town, or drive into the city, which would take around 20 minutes or so. I plan on having around 5 units, probably starting with a couple basic beds and stand ups and one facial bed and then upgrading when I can. I'm have a few questions, like how busy can I expect to be when just starting out? How do I figure out how much money I will be bringing in, and what are reasonable goals for say, the 1 year mark? does anyone have any experience in leasing equipment? I think it seems like a viable option for me, so that I can upgrade in a couple years? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any advise! Tiffany |

Re: Thinking about opening new tanning salon
Tiffany, Theres a crap load of us from Michigan on this forum. I swear Michigan has more tanning than any other state. Anyway, your not telling me what part of Michigan and I hope it's not close to me but I am the only salon in a small town just outside of a large town that has a salon on every corner. Don't know how they are all surviving but my best advice would be to come in strong with better beds than the competition because they will continue to drive into the larger town for a better bed (or what they think is a better bed). Come in strong with great equiptment and competitive prices and you should do good. I've been approached to help with a salon in another small town North of me. With gas prices at 3.00 a gallon, people don't want to drive. Good Luck!

Re: Thinking about opening new tanning salon
when i said "The only places to tan are a couple of units located in a couple salons in town, or drive into the city, which would take around 20 minutes or so." The salons I was talking about are hair salons, not tanning salons. That's the only existing place in town to tan
