Re: determining ones self worth
Minimum wage is federally mandated but the States can reverse the decision to increase it which most have think some have even tried to decrease it. Anyway here is a map on the post above click on your state and it will tell you what the minum wage in your state is. If your looking for quality help pay well if they are not doing their job then they don't get retained simple as that. I'll agree with LEO turn over in this Industry is up there.

Re: determining ones self worth
We pay our staff $6.25/hr. with 10% commission on lotion sales, free tanning, 50% off lotion, and $10.00 per EFT sold. Our State minimum wage is at $5.15/hr. In October it is going up to $6.95. Staff will be paid $6.95 (minimum wage) at that point.

Re: determining ones self worth
You can work at a counter of McDonald's for $8.50 per hour.
Your pay structure should be designed to motivate and identify motivated employees, this coupled with consistent motivational, educational sales training will increase sales. This is also a great reason to have an employee training manual for consistent transfer of information. There are a lot of different effective pay programs that will increase sales. Get help from a qualified professional. |

Re: determining ones self worth
Most young people work a at a salon for free tanning .. which may not cost the salon owner alot per session per but in the employee's eyes is alot when they know your prices.. As well as lotion discounts and other incentives such as commission... Over paying your employees would be a mistake... The flexibility of most salons as a great advantage as well.. And for smaller salons the atmosphere seems to be more welcoming... I think I pay my people a decent amount considering they are being supported by mommy and daddy still, plus I am pretty lenient... I am not sure what would justify such a large pay in salary... But I would also make my decision if I was paying on the books or off ... Eacgh salon is different and if my staff was scheduled differently and I had more $ coming throughout the year of course my staff would be compensated.. Sorry just typing !
