Darn it! I was considereing opening up in a small town that only really has one salon which lead me to do some research on this site. I just found out someone is opening up one!!! GRR!!!

thats good.......gives customers something to compare you too! competition is not always bad! c what else you can find out of the other salon and do better or more. good luck

I'm in a very small town and there was rumors that someone was opeing a hair salon and putting in tanning beds. I ignored the RUMORS and went for it anyway and I am the only tanner in town and doing very well. Go for it and beat them to it and they may back down........if it's what you REALLY want! Good Luck!

Ok heres a question for ya.
The other shop in town is offering an April special. $30 for the whole month. This is my best time of year to make money $$$. And I dont plan to give tans away.. I cant run my beds for a dollar a tan... What would you do? I sure would hate to pay their electric bill at the end of the month.

The vast majority of my tanning revenue comes from eft's and monthly unlimited packages. For the month of March my 50 most frequent clients tanned an average of 8 times but spent an average of $123 each when you factor in product sales.

You cannot simply assume everyone is going to tan everyday you are open. In fact my most active client tanned only 16 times during the month.

It could definitely be a good thing, assuming you do it right. As long as your salon is better than the other guy's salon, it will be beneficial to you. Two salons will make more people aware that tanning is available, and when your salon is better, you will get the majority of the customers.

And you should be focusing on getting more $$$ for upgrades...
