Accessories

I am in the planning stages of opening a tanning salon with my wife. I am not looking to get rich, I just wanna be able to make the monthly bills along with the house payment (the house payment comes out of her paycheck..everything else comes from mine - she got the better deal). However, this will also allow my wife to spend time with the kids and provide them some responsibillity as well - in other words, no more daycare-they stay with her after school.

And before anyone harps on me for that - I know that this business requires dedication and it is not easy to run.

She (my wife) is really in to tanning and we have our eyes set on a great location - right next to her cousin's beauty shop and nail salon.

As mentioned, I am in the planning stages as well as seeking financing options for the venture. I know that i can not just throw something together and be ready to tackle this world - not to mention that there is no way I can be ready for this season. I am looking at opening in January.

What accessories do most of you carry? I would like to add in extra amenities to make our business more appealing and more diverse. I have read through a few posts (I have been lurking as a quest for a while) and know the basic lotions and tanning related items/parafanalia..but what outside of the tanning business world would be a good addition.

We live in a small town about 45 miles NE of Atlanta and fashion is not a key thing around here. Wal-Mart clothes are fine to most .

I have read where some rent out or offer massage therapy sessions and I like this idea. My wife is also into cosmetics (not Tammy Fae like), would this be a good addition as well?

Any and all helpfull comments welcome.

Thank you

Would these two very things not tread on the toes of the Beauty Salon next door????

Re: Accessories

No, no no - sorry..I guess Ishould have given a better description. The beauty salon only does hair and they have 1 nail technician.

Re: Accessories

Some small advise, when you negotiate your lease, be sure it lists these extra activities (massage, cosmetics,...) that you plan on doing. That way there will be no issues with the other tennants. I just ran into that, I added a nail tech and the beauty salon 2 doors down pitched a fit. My attorney said my lease was loose enough to 'probably' not be a problem, but it would have been better to have it spelled out. Also, you may want a clause that states no one else can do tanning in the complex.
