All of a sudden "Tanzme", the guy that is too busy oftentimes to get beds delivered and people wind up complaining and thinking he is ripping them off (although he always has a reason - search his posts), has recently started "working in this salon" that got a solar shower and people love it???

Hmmm -- my experience with the Solar Shower is that it is a piece of junk and not something I would EVER consider as a spray booth!! And that I have to wonder if this post was done to sell equipment??

Agree with the above. Sunless brings in a different revenue stream, but it is DEFINITELY a revenue stream that is more saturated than it ever was. Then again - so is UV tanning! If you have 10+ beds, multiple levels and are truly a "full service" salon, sure. If you are much smaller, if spray tans are already $10/head in your town, if you don't have HP yet -- I'd go that way! The hardest part of spray anymore is to get quality, but at a good price. I wouldn't pay over 20K for a booth in most places anymore, but you are hard pressed to get quality for that price. I like the Cabana Mist and the Mystic MyMist maybe. But I'd rather go HP in most salons!

like others said they are two different worlds. We have some clients who spray only, we have clients who do the cocktail, and we have clients who tan only. One of our salons has 4 different types of spray! it does very well... its a fairly large salon, 26 rooms but we would miss out on a lot of clients if we didn't offer spray. I think it also has to do with the location... we are in a upscale neighborhood... so you have all the rich women complaining about wrinkles and wanting to spray because their dermotoligist told them too....

I have considered offering the airbrush. Less expensive and I notice I have been getting calls-seasonally... around prom and winter formal. Not enought to support a mystic but enough to offer a cheap alternative

It is important to know what you are getting yourself into when you offer UV Free tanning. This is an excellent product for the tanner that has been applying self tanning lotions and is looking for a convenient alternative. However if you take a person that has not used self tanning lotions and sell them on doing it you are going to create a very unhappy customer. If you encourage a bride to spray tan before she gets married you will ruin her wedding. UV free tans in no way are natural, they are orange or at least a color that is not natural. Because of variations in the skin they are uneven, and a few days after the tan the color does not come of evenly. For a person that has always used UV Free products this is something they are accustomed to for a UV tanner that is trying it for the first time they will hate the whole experience. UV free tanning is to attract the tanner that will not expose themselves to UV tanning. When you offer UV free be prepared for the overwhelming amounts of customer complaints.

you are setting yourself up for cust complaints just by owning a business...uv or uvfree % of cust still complain regardless.

I use a spray on tan but not the automated ones. I've hear too many complaints about how they turn you orange, spot, streak and worse stink. I use an airbrush method with a sugar based solution that doesn't have and after smell, goes on smooth and even and looks natural. I've only had a couple turn slightly orange and they were ghost white before so I let this type of person know before hand. I do have to have a small room for it and a trained person to do them and it takes about 20-30 minutes from start to clean room. I have everyone trained, although they always stick me with doing the guys and most of the women would rather have my wife or one of the other women spray them for some reason. The body builders love the extra dark fomula before compititions and I have a rush before school dances and holidays. I normally only do about 45-60 per month but I do have EFTs that get one a week and I offer group rates for wedding parties. Also I'm new so I haven't built up my business yet and word has to spread that not every spray on tan is the same.

Hi, I'm based in UK and this site is fab. I am just signing the lease on my premises & equipment so my 1st salon should be open in about 6 weeks.(everything crossed) We must be different to US as most tanners prefer the stand up Booths so I have decided to start with 3 Ultra Sun Stand up booths 200w - 1 Jet Power HP Ultra Sun Bed - 1 Ergoline Advantage Bed and I am really keen to offer the Mystic Tan (new booth is called My Mist and has no fiddling around with solutions) I am a bit concerned though that an awful lot of people are advising not to bother with the spray tan booths. I know that Mystics biggest market is the US and just wondered if any Mystic Owners would be able to give me some honest advice. I do tend to 'faff' quite a bit and would be disappointed if the cust didn't get the result they wanted so will probably spend ages with them on the 1st session to make sure they know exactly what they are doing. Nobody in my area has a Mystic Booth so hopefully I would be a bit of a novelty..Any help or advice - greatly appreciated.

I love my Mystic booth. It does quite well for us. It brings a totally different client into the business, not to mention the hardcore UV fanatics like to "cocktail" in the same day also.

I have tried them all (at least those offered 2 yrs ago, when I bought) Mystic is by far the best and most consistent.

Spray on was doing nicely when it was at $40 a pop, now it's dropped to $14.99 and the units still cost 40K. I don't think I'll be investing in that anytime soon.
