to franchise or not?

Hello all ,

I dont know if this question is even allowed in here ? I sure dont want to offend anyone . I have been looking into opening a salon in a growing town that currently doesnt have one at all. Popuilation is about 25k to mabey 40K with winter visitor making the 15k influx from sept/oct to about april. My question is are all of you independant owners or are some of you franchised location owners? Pros and cons to the franchise versus starting from scratch? any advice or opinions would be great .. Can we mention franchise names?? thanks in advance

Re: to franchise or not?

I am not a franchise and I really personally don't know the pros and cons. I am the only tanning salon here and I can pick and choose what I want is the only pro I think franchises have alot of say

Re: to franchise or not?

Depends if you want to work sick hours, lose family time, not sleep and be captive in your salon and keep all the profits,....or do the exact same amount of work and hand your money to someone else.
I voted for keeping my $$ for my blood sweat and tears.

Re: to franchise or not?

Baffling. Yes, tanning franchises are evil. They want more than just your money. They earn extra points in **** when you finally (expediently or eventually) file for your personal bankruptcy and lose everything you had. Maybe it wasn't much, but you had it. But they always have a great plan, which is more than what you had when you started thinking about ruining your life in the first place, so it in some cases, it's a "wash", or a "push" in some gambling circles. (You can't call the eight ball in the corner pocket on a round table) Welcome to the "Bigs". Keep swinging slugger. Bet on the visiting team. Good luck.

Re: to franchise or not?

We must be fair in this evaluation. Franchise is about having information organized in a way that you can jump right into an industry with a proven program. Yes there is initial and ongoing expense to a franchise. On the other side of the spectrum is opening a salon with out enough knowledge to be successful. In the middle are a number of ways to enter this industry with proven programs that are as effective or even more effective than a franchise without any initial or ongoing expense. Any way you choose will require a great deal of effort if you want to be successful.

Re: to franchise or not?

Independent is the way to go and there's ways to make your buisness give the impression it's franchised... ;)
