Re: Electric Output

BTW, I'd be amazed if it was a 200 amp 3 PHASE service. Just my guess, it's 200 amps single phase (two, 120 volt service lines).

Re: Electric Output

Get as much as you can. W/ an electrical service your only paying for what your using so if he's paying or contributing a large portion........400 is the minimum , 600 much better but you could need more....much more. Who knows , hopefully you'll kick some major *** and at some point you'll invest in some major upgrade equipment. (HP? )Soooo, get all you can. With a/c it's almost the same thinking. You're determining total tonage based on sq. ft., but more importantly the beds requirements for cooling & replacement air. It could be below zero outside but you'd still need to provide "make-up" air for the higher out-put beds. You'll pay more in electric true but you're also saving as keeping the electronics & bulbs cooled properly you'll extend bulb & component life greatly. GET ALL YOU CAN!!

Re: Electric Output

Yeah you want a min of 400amp but 600 amp is the way to go.
Cost wise, rule of thumb is $1000.00 per 100 amps of service. So a 600 amp service should run approx $6000.00 to set-up.
Keep in mind that things can vary depending on your situation!

That same rule of thumb also works for air conditioning.

Re: Electric Output

A/C rates just jumped around here because of the housing boom. $1,500.00 per ton now.

Re: Electric Output

Yea, that'd be a good deal here right now. We're at about $1,750 p/ ton.

Re: Electric Output

I just had two quotes for an additional 5 tons last week and they were both right at 5K. The price included everything including electrical and ducts.

Re: Electric Output

Also installed a new 7 1/2 ton roof-top unit a month ago on a property in Florida for 9K. It was a bit more than 1K per ton because of the crane rental.
