Re: looking to open a salon
I just opened a new salon in november and did alot of research before going with tanses beds and working with JB at darkertan. He is great! I talk to him weekly and is there for anything we need or just to talk. he has helped us through so much. He knows his stuff and the beds are the best i've ever used. My customers love them. I have 3 32's, 2 TX 52's and a TT55 (stand up), which is my favorite! I highly recommend giving JB a call or at least take a look at his website. his number is 1-800-309-3090 and websit is darkertan.8m.com!
Good Luck! Carrie |

Re: looking to open a salon
well...
first I suggest you look at all your option but I strongly advice you do a search on this and the other tanning websites available to you. BEFORE you call any franchise office. They are an option of course. BUT you do want to be your own boss correct? Then why work to make the franchise money. IF you plan well and do your homework you can make a go of it as an independent. JMHO Start with learning about tanning, benefits of UV and lotions, The anti tanning orgs- the Tanning orgs that are supposed to help us. The State you are in--- regulations.. as well as lack of them( if applicable) Which could indicate a future issue that could come to haunt you. The problem most people have is they do not do enough case studies of the market they plan to jump into as a competitor. But that is but one small part of the equation. There are many more factors. Search search search and read every thread that might be relevent to what you are asking. Use the search option and type in key words such as beds, lamps, Mfgs, Marketing, Price structures, loans, employees, lotion, promotions, etc.. And gather as much info as possible. Cut and paste some of the more important nuggets of info and save them in Word. Why word??? So you can print and use it as your cheat sheet when you need to. When you have a fully developed well rounded filesaved in Word'....covering all aspects of running a salon. And are ready to look into how to start your own or how to purchase an existing salon. After that--- Then and only then do I suggest you call JB. or any other franchise sales man. JMHO If you are looking for someone to spoon feed you, do your leg work, and hold your hand by all means call JB> JUST KNOW THIS~~~It will cost you! If you want to be your own boss and own and operate a salon successfully... do your homework.

Re: looking to open a salon
Or I would open a unique business - such as a pizza parlor or a video rental store

Re: looking to open a salon
Burton~ Do have any background with business or marketing or anything to base your start with? It takes a lot of work. My mom and I spent a year and a half developing our salon before we decided to give it a go. I took some classes and my mom has background with business and computer newworking and so forth. It helps to know what you are getting into.

Re: looking to open a salon
i think tanning and pizza go together quite nicely. but what's pizza without a cold brew, right? so get a liquor license too. the idea being that once they are full of pizza and their heads spinning from a pitcher of coors, you drag them into a tanning session. Buy a pitcher, get a free tan. that would be a money maker if i ever saw one. plus give them a coupon for more pizza. they come back and you do the whole thing all over again. maybe i'm on to something here. you newbies entering the biz for the first time, better grab this idea right away.

Re: looking to open a salon
JB's knowledge and daily contacts do not cost a thing...if anything.....I make $ I am a distributor of tanses equipment for him on the east coast thanks to him....didn't pay a thing extra..just bought tanses equipment from him AFTER I did a year of research on tanning equipment and talked with many tanning companies!
