Hello,
We are openning up a tanning salon and were wondering how necessary stand ups are in todays market? So many companies offer high end beds that provide all over tans, so are stand ups really needed?

Thanks for your advise!

I recommend having one if the budget allows for it, but I wouldn't advise shorting yourself in the more popular lay down equipment to get one. Good luck.

Vertical units for sure. You can make high $ if you have the right one and market the unit correctly.

Standups are great for people who are a bit skiddish about laying flat on a bed used by other people. Then there are those who enjoy listing to music and like to dance. Standups work well for both purposes.

Standups for the bigger people and men seem to prefer them also.

Depends entirely on your market, your size salon, and your equip mix.

Some markets do very well with them. While it most markets, less than 10% of tanners are willing to use one and they often sit empty.

If you have 15 beds or more with 3 or more levels, yes, have one.

If you are putting in 4 beds and it is the difference between a nice laydown VHR or a standup, laydown in a heartbeat.

Inbetween those points will depend on your specific situation.

Standups definately! We have two that are considered high end (they are ones that are comparable to my laydowns) and as a matter of fact I am getting a third. My customers love them. Also we advocate the rotation of units.

I think that in most markets, you have to have at least one. Especially if the comp has one. If ou have a strong market, you can even get away with two of them. Educate yourself on the advantages and pass that on to your clients.
