Getting cold feet!!!! - Page 7

Man, where were you guys yesterday when I was ready to throw in the towel?

Tanzenite--I chose 3 beds to start and see how it goes. I can always expand.
dcjjp and missyhot--I am starting with nails, hair, and beds however as we grow, I would like to move to the space next door and do a mini spa and add more beds. Our country club has hotel rooms upstairs and they have weddings all the time. They would have to drive 15 miles to the nearest salon(which is marginal and no where I would want to go)to have some updos or some self indulgence, so the idea of spa packages has good potential. What's funny is two men that my husband works with(nuclear power plant) have come up to him and said "Hey I hear you're opening a tanning salon. I'm in" These are men whom he never would have guessed tanned. Thought that was funny.

You will dominate your area!!! If you don't do it someone else eventually will. I'm not saying it's going to be easy. I feel that the rising gas prices and economy has actually helped me. Why would someone want to drive over 10 miles away to tan when they can in there community??? Many of my customers have memberships at the BIG CHAIN over ten miles away and they don't use them, they come to me for convenience! You will do great! I would be more worried for you if you tried starting off with 5 or more beds. You can and WILL grow by reputation and THEN expand.

Only problem that I see is that you can only expand or grow to the number of people "allowed into this gated community"

That is the only downside that I see

Thanks. Everyone here has big suvs and gas is at $3.00 gal so I definately see that working in my favor.

dcjjp2---Actully, there is another gated community 1.5 miles from here that has about 3000 people in it and they are aloud in the gate for retail services. Could be another big possibility for me and I think word of mouth spreads like wildfire around here.

Reason I ask is I too live in a gated townhome community and NO-ONE is allowed in without an escort or buzzed in from the tenants.

Just wondering, You havent said where you are planning on opening a salon. Gated community? Is that the only clients you plan on having?

Tanya--You need to start at the beginning of the thread and you will get all the info you need.

dcjjp2--This place has the most strict gate I have ever dealt with. I'm not really sure how the landlord is planning on inforcing entry in, but he garranteed me that they would be let in.
