It's never too little too late. Unless you were destined to fail from the beginning, or you're a quitter.

We also are new, bought an existing salon that was poorly managed in June. Our best results so far are word of mouth referrals, clean quality facility. We've also tried radio, readerboard and newspaper flyer. So far the newspaper flyer has worked pretty good. That can be rather expensive though with printing and distribution costs. But you can zero in on a market area with it. BTW our business has increased about 50% since opening and still growing.

We sent out a flier for Tan free for 1 week any equipment. Tons of response! We did 10,000 post cards. Existing customers get free upgrades all week, they choose the week, it expires in a month.

West Side is right, if you continue to give things away for free or lower your prices, you are the one that will go out of business, not your competition.

I see your point, but as a new studio it was worth it to get our name out there and to get people in the door. So many places that are competition have people locked into their program, so sometimes they need a strong incentive to try something un-familiar.

I agree getting your name out there is very important, but I don't think giving it all away is the way to do it. The only thing we have been giving away is one free session to existing customers if they refer someone who buys a package. That has really been driving referals.

Our "Refer-A-Friend" program has worked great for us. Make yourself up some business sized cards offering a free visit to the new client and state on the card what the individual who referred them in gets if they purchase a package. We give the client who referred the individual in "3 Free Upgrades" to the next level. They love the "free upgrades" so are eager to refer as many as possible in. Once we get the new person in the door and show what we have to offer, they usually purchase a package before they even use their "free visit". It just snowballs from there. They know that they will get "free" upgrades if they refer someone in...see how it works Another positive to this, once they upgrade they usually will continue to do so once the free ones are used up. We also have salon T-Shirts clients purchase. When they buy one, we make sure to give them a few extra cards so that when they are out and someone ask about the shirt...wa..la..another potential client. Be creative...the more creative we become, the better we do. Good luck!
