It's obsolete when it is no longer competitive with what competing salons offer or it no longer fits in with your marketing plan are a couple of reasons for a piece of equipment becoming obsolete.

If your comp has 8 years old beds and buys new ones when yours are 1 1/2 years old, you should buy new ones too? Keep them clean, working well and go for it! |

You have a way twisting things around Neon. 1 1/2 year old beds IMO would not be obsolete if they are comparable to the comps. and for me a car is obsolete after 1 1/2 to 2 years. I trade one in every year!

Then you have more money than rest of us! New car everyear?? As if?
Had I known that I would have to buy new beds every year before the first ones were paid for I would never had got into this business. Just because the newer units have better lines and paint features doesn't mean they work any better. You people must be under the Bed Salespersons Magic Spell. |

Where in my posts did I say the age of a bed made it obsolete? And yes i do trade one of my cars every year and my motorcoach every three years. You can do these things when you're single, have no kids and have been extremely successful with investments and business. Why do you always have to be so neagative and consdescending to everyone?

If believe you are in the retail business ...of course you have to keep it fresh and exciting for your clients.
The tanning industry has a young client base and it helps if you continue to keep things fresh and new. I think you have to upgrade your top beds every two years. Your clients do not care that "you almost have them paid off" it is not about you...but about your customers and what they demand and how you can make them happy and continue to keep your salon competitive. |

Your tanning bed salesman must love you. If you read the post on another site which I know you did, you would understand that the tanning public does not "sleep around" so to speak. Less than 15 percent move from salon to salon. So who are you buying these new beds for and what makes you think the clients will be impressed when you get rid of their favorite bed? We have some tanning beds that are over 8 years old and still the most popular beds in the salon. Level 3. Clients would kill us if we got rid of them. I know a few people in the industry that have been made to think that tanning beds are everything in this business and I am here to tell you a 10K Vhr bed and a 20K Vhr bed can have the exact same output, tan the same and look as big. Only the salon owner knows how much it cost. I think one of the biggest mistakes is assuming that they will be impressed with you new purchase most will not even know unless it’s something new to your salon. Sure if you add a piece of equipment that does something different, say add HP or a stand up, or a bed with facials, or a leg tanner, or spray booth, a new service that’s one thing but to just sell beds because they are old, I really don’t know if I agree with that. _________________ Jeni quit being silly.....[ This Message was edited by: Jeni and Mike on 2005-07-24 10:41 ] |
