IT BECOMES OBSOLETE WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN SELL IT OR YOU DON'T EVEN WANT IT IN YOUR BASEMENT FOR THE DAYS YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO WORK.

To preface my question above, my wife and I are looking at purchasing an exising salon. We've found an independent salon that we like. So, we drove around to see the competition today...not too fearful. At the first place we went, my wife went in to inquire about beds and pricing. The young lady at the counter had no idea what kind of beds they had. She did know, however, that they only had 2 levels. The next place we went noted that they were to close at 4:00. We got there at 3:30, the shades were half drawn, the door locked and some young high school kid continued to sit behind the counter and do nothing...unbelievable.

So, anyway, the salon we're looking at has 10 2003 Ergoline beds (including 1 HP). Purchase price was originally $90k back in 2003. So, my question is...what would you do with the beds? Would you hold on to the beds for another couple years and then try to sell them and upgrade? Would you structure an equipment leaseback and take the cash so that you could upgrade in the near future? Any other ideas?

Further to post above, beds have 1,300 hours being on the base beds, 700 on the mid-levels and 1,000 on the HP.

Dang close!!

When Does a Tanning Bed Become Obsolete ?

As soon as some slick salesman tells ya so!!

Good gawd, many smaller salon spend 3 - 5 years paying off their equipment, then all of a sudden they have to go back into debt cause someone tells them there stuff is obsolete?? Please??

If you have lots of money to throw around, change'em up every 2 yrs., but if I had that kinda money, I wouldn't even be in this business........... I'd look for something that makes money!

Im waiting for the day when old beds are going to be the IN thing. Kinda like cars are, you know the Barett-Jackson thing. Next up we have an '82 24 Lamp wolf system, full off frame restoration, with all matching munbers, and original stickers. Yes, I do belive it has a chop top, looks like a west coast job. Starting bid???
$ 10,000.00 US dollars. AHHHH that would be the day. Untill then the second your start it up its old. Oh yea there is a full set of the original lamps that comes with that bed.

They are already, look at all the used beds for sale! Good bargains to be had out there, if you want the same problems they had. Good luck.
