All of the chain salons in the area have the "uniform" and they have answered my questions with "well, I like the big bed because it tans more good."

Give this broad the white jacket and turn her into a brain surgeon. LOL!

If your staff has prescence there should be no way you couldn't pick them out of a crowd, uniform or not....

We have guidelines for what is acceptable. So far we have had no problems. All of us have salon shirts (variety of colors) as well as different shirts promoting the lotion lines we carry. We provided those and they get a lot of use. At the same time the employees can wear whatever they choose as long as it acceptable. I think it is up to you as an owner. Whatever you are comfortable with. Prior to this I worked in the medical field, scrubs everyday. Regardless of how comfortable they are I hated wearing the samething everyday. Now I don't have to and neither do the employees.

Nothing says professional and sets you apart from the competition than wearing a uniform. You don't have to go overboard either. Something as simple as colorful T-shirts with your salon logo and unifrm colored pants and shorts. Follow this up with a professional attitude, customer-friendly attitude and good knowledge of indoor tanning requirements/do's and don'ts and you will be well on your way to a winning combination.

We have a dress code, not really a uniform. I don't need my guests coming in seeing an employees butt cheeks hanging out of her shorts which also happen to define her camel toes and also not wearing a bra. Don't laugh, I've been in salons and witnessed this which is why we have a strick dress code.

We do not have a uniform policy but I do adhere to a strict dress code policy. No bra straps hanging out, midrif shirts, short need to be appropriate in length, no ripped or torn jeans, no offensive language or wrinkled clothes. I have been fortunate that my employees are little divas and always coming to work looking cute and very well put together. However the girls all have name tags they put on when they clock in.

We have t-shirts with our logo on the back but the rest is up to them.....jeans, shorts whatever as long as they're not Daisy Dukes I'm cool with it. We're a pretty laid back salon.

Quote:How professional would it look if the UPS guy or the Mailman wore jeans and a nice shirt?
Our Mailman wears wife-beaters and ripped up khaki shorts and usually a bandana on his head. Doesn't bother me any, as long as I get my mail....

Re: Dress code

My front desk staff wears a black t-shirt with our name on the front and our name and logo on the back while our bed cleaners wear a gray t-shirt with the same print as the black t's. 'Once a week we allow them to wear whatever they like as long as it is modest and not distracting.
We've never had a problem. Some of our staff even have embroidered zipper hoodies that they wear around, helps that they stay in our area! Great for advertising and branding!
We actually have requests from our clients to buy them.

Really for us it's about branding. We are tucked back in a corner and need to do all we can to get our name and logo out there.

Re: Dress code

what dcjjp2 said! my staff has no dress code. when i chose them i knew the type of person they were already. my husband did the monkey suit for 23 yrs and loves wearing jeans to work. he's just as smart as he's always been and a great marketer/salesman!
