I was wondering what your opinions are on the number of levels a salon should have. I have seen a couple of people post that they feel fewer well defined levels are better....others have talked about giving the customers all options available.
I originally was planning on going w/ 4 levels but have began to question this. The difference between my levels 1, 2 & 3 are some what small. Here what I had planned: Level 1 - 32 x 100w, no facials (3200w total) Level 2 - 18 x 160w canopy, 18 x 100w bench & 3 x 400w facials (5880w total) Level 3 - 42 x 160w, 2 500w facials (7920w total) Level 4 - 32 x 140w top, 22 x 160w bottom & 4 1000w facials (12640w total) I am debating on dropping the 5880w level 2 and moving the rest of the beds down a level. I would not change the pricing on the beds I would scrap my current level 2 price along with the 5880w beds. (Hope that make sense ) I am thinking that this would allow me to sell an upgrade to the 7920w bed easier based on the fact it is a distinctly different sized bed. Any thoughts? _________________ [ This Message was edited by: cocotan on 2005-07-07 11:36 ] |

Without what manufacturer(s?) you are going with, it is a little harder to determine since ultimately the wattage of the bed means very little in terms of how it tans, how it "looks" (bigger/better visually to appeal to the tanner), etc
Also - what prices (walk-in prices) are you hoping to achieve? |

I'm thinking of going with Tan America beds. Something like this:
Level 1 - Santabarbara ($8.00 walk in) Level 2 - Del Ray ($11.00 walk in) Level 3 - Matrix L58 ($15.00 walk in) I know the L58 is not a HP bed but I think it fits well as a highest level in my market right now. |

Depends on your local market of course, but $8 walk-in for the base-bed seems a "bit" high ---- OR ----$15 walk-in for the L58 seems a "bit" low - in comparison to each other and to what each will offer in terms of results.
Depends on how many rooms of course, and how many units total. Personally, I would like: Level 1 - $7 - Santa Barbara (100W - 32 lamps) Level 2 - $10 - Santa Barbara VHO (100/160 - 32 lamps) - no facials Level 3 - $13 - Del Ray (160/facials/42 lamps) Level 4 - $16 - L58 If your market is a higher income area and $8 is competitive walk-in pricing, I would probably go $8/$11/$14/$17-18. This $3 difference is so small as to be a very easy sell. "hey - for just 3 bucks..." Your level 4 (L58) is a GREAT bed. Your entry level is very good. What you do in the middle depends on how many rooms/units you'll have total, and your ability to get them upgrading. The advantage of more "levels" is the "jumps" between them cost-wise are small and so easier to move them along ("well, for just another $3, you could just do the DelRay today instead and not wait...."). BUT - yes, you have to make sure there is something distinguishable - and sellable - between each level. I think your first suggestion (putting facials in the Level 2) would make it too hard to distinguish between that and the DelRay. So my line-up has them going from Entry, TO Higher "kick" in the canopy to get that extra color on the front where you want it" TO "facial tanners and even more 'kick'", TO "the Mac Daddy"! BUT - again, my final answer would depend on your total number of rooms. I wouldn't do 4 levels unless you have at LEAST 10 rooms total. |

The L58 is a great unit, as well all the TA equipment you listed...the problem I have is this.
If you are concerned about your 'prices' for your area, why would you want to spend 29K on a bed like the L58? If your area can't handle more than $15 for a walk-in, I'd look elsewhere. A good as it is, there are other VHR's for less. |
