All our prices are in our brochure. Other salons will eventualy get our prices anyways and the most important thing to us is the client not the other salon. If you suspect someone of "checkin" on you just let them know you'll meet or beat the competitors prices. Make the compettition compete with you not the other way around, I'd rather have the dollar even if its only a dollar becuase its one less dollar in theirs.

I am very proud of my structure, Low enough to differentiate myself from my closest comp. and high enough to be profitable. I have it on brochure handouts as well as my website. Once perspective clients come in and think I am high (most are commuters from outlying areas) I invite them to check the comp (have pricing sheets from all of them in my desk) They then see that we are the affordable option. Case closed.

I know WHY Grip would say that - and I would agree with him in SOME cases, but certainly not all!
No prices posted can be an easier 'sell' - but also make the client FEEL like they are being "sold". Consider the type of salon you want to run and how the clients in your community might react. Personally, I agree 100% with dcjjp2! |

If I come into your store and would like to know your prices....would you want me to take 15 minutes of your time...or 5 minutes?
I think the bigger issue is watching your instore traffic, I believe in having counters on the door to see traffic coming in ...vs. sales or tannners... |

I guess I wasn't reading this completely right before answering. I don't do pamphlets with prices to handout. But I post them in plain view for customers. You couldn't peer in the windows and see them (as a competitor. But you could if you walked in the salon.
I really don't have a problem with competitors coming in, saying hi, and talking "shop" - including letting them see my prices, equipment, etc. I don't like 'sneaky'. Don't be a chicken and send some poor young girl to do your dirty work for her (you can tell who they are, they are so nervous!). |

I know...I go back and forth..does it really matter?
I want our workers to be informed, and I want our customers to be informed... I know I have shopped other salons and have had a employee write out every price and level on a blank sheet.. Is that something I want on of our employees writting? I think this might be something we all go crazy over...and might not be a make it or break it situation! |
