My business partner and I are looking to open a salon in the West Hollywood, CA area.

How can we find a contractor that is familiar with the requirements of setting up a tanning salon?

What order do you recommend taking for the following steps: Securing financing, finding a location, finding a contractor? We are concerned that by finding the location first, we may be over or under estimating the amount of financing we can secure. However, we also want to know how much capital we need before we look for financing. Also, we're concerned that if we find a location before hiring a contractor, the location would not be acceptable for a tanning salon due to electrical/space/AC requirements.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Paul

Hmmmmmmm? Good location? $8500 a month rent, and spend at least $650,000 on build out and decor for marble floors pillars and washroom vanities, and another $400,000 on equipment. Don't forget to have the $18.88 a month unlimited EFT's.

Do you have marble floors too? I thought it was just our thing...

Concept999...after reading the two links, do you have any other questions?

Oh, you can't tan people without marble floors?????? Duh. And front desk counters?? If you can't afford marble, then buy a Wendy's.

DWhite-

Thanks for the info; I had actually already read through those posts, and while I found them very useful, I still have a few unanswered questions. Specifically:

Did you find the location first, or the contractor?

How did you find a contractor that is familiar with the requirements for a tanning salon?

Will a contractor be able to let us know what we need as far as electrical requirements, etc? Does an equipment vendor provide this information?

Thanks!

Paul

Unless you find a contractor that has actually built a tanning salon, it will be jacked up 5 ways from Tuesday. Find a location that draws large numbers of female customers aged 16 to 56. You need a minimum mix of ten beds, and there amp draw requirements will dictate your overall electrical requirements for the store. Then get a contractor and tell him what you want to happen how it will happen, and turn him loose. Good luck.
