Hurricane Jeane stole mine off the roof and a week later Hurricane Frances leaked all over my unit in the rafters last September...and our new one's are 4 ton each....but I was told the same thing....1 per unit and most of my beds have a/c built in so it's really a little chilly...now everyone complains it's too cold in here...

So stop using my rooms for phone booths and get your cloths on....NEXT!!! LOL

Thanks I thought so myself! I have a/c in the beds as well and haven't seen a place with all tht a/c. I think I an going to go with 2 tons. My lanlord will be supplying the a/c and if I can get him to buy atleat 2 tons then if need be I will buy the extra if needed. Only 1500 sq feet so I dont anticipate needing all that a/c.

How many 4 ton units do you have with how many beds in salon! We are do open july 29-30 weekend. I am trule very excited to be a tanning salon owner! There are no professional tanning salons in a 45 mile radius.

Oh Gosh....I am so happy for you.....And Wish you the BEST OF LUCK....anything you need on suppliers of a variety of things I have several contacts on many items email me anytime...I have 2-4 tons they are Trane's....my landlords insurance paid for mine as the result of the Hurricanes...but I say it's better to over do then under...as you can control it by a thermastat....much easier then installing an undersize unit and realizing it aft...I know the extra tonnage was 320.00 or less per unit...well worth it..oh and I have 6 and a spray room...my rooms are 8x9 or bigger except the Lighthouse (stand up)is about 5x6....Again, the best of luck on you new salon...Go get em.....

Is it a REQUIREMENT to have A/C? Where is that documented? I know it is necessary but is it tanning law??? Just curious and just learning.

From all my research on in this market, it seems that you need between 1-1.5 tons of AC per unit.
"Is it a REQUIREMENT to have A/C?"... I dont know either but Id have to guess that if you dont have AC than your store will be over 100 degrees by 12 noon... might pose a bit of a problem.

I agree that it is better to have too much A/C than not enough. I usually have 1 ton per 35 lamp beds and below and 2 tons per bed any bigger. It is also important when calculating how much A/C you need to take into consideration how much air would be needed for general cooling if your store was not a tanning salon. Then add your tanning bed A/C requirements and your store requirements.

Tanning beds are not even a REQUIREMENT for a tanning salon. More like common sense.

I would do at least 5-Tons for a 1500sqft space, depending on the beds. If your beds are Magnetic Ballast you will need more AC because they run hotter than Choke Ballast. The difference in cost for the unit itself is not that much more. I can tell you 2-Tons will not be enough.

Here is how AC is "required" in my state. This is lifted straight from the regulations

(5) Not allow the temperature of a tanning facility to exceed one hundred (100) degrees Fahrenheit at any time.

If don't think you would have a shot at this in August without AC
