I am currently in the process of putting together an article regarding franchising in tanning and other older industries experiencing a burst in franchising. From your comments, it seems as though many of you have run into problems with these big franchises just taking the money and not offering any real support. Everyone seems to be saying that a lot of these companies are preying on people who have saved up some money and are trying to get into the game. Of course, when these people pay up, they’re basically handing their money over to help the organization become bigger. Very little is done in the interest of the franchisee. I have heard a couple of complaints against Planet Beach through these forums, and I am sure that there are more people who have had problems with this company and other ones. Can anyone tell me where I can get more information regarding how many franchisees fail or do not turn a real profit? Do most of these franchisees hang on even though they’re not making a decent profit since they’ve put their life savings into the project? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
