Hello,

I am new to the forum. Lots of great information. I have spent a few hours searching through old posts, but I wanted some inside information on starting a salon. I am thinking of starting a salon in the Sacramento California area and looking for some starting tips or steps that I may need to check out. Any help or suggestions would be great.

This is a great site. I love all the information. Thanks in advance!

Check out California Sun Centers in Sacramento and ask to talk to the owner. They are some of the nicest salons in the country and there are 15 (?) in the Sacramento area and still growing. If you still want to open one after seeing your "competition", check back. I'd say your area may be a bit too competitive to jump in as a newbie and expect to be successful.

Also - with as much good information as has been shared on this site over the years, I would recommend ANYONE new to the industry take a few WEEKS (not hours) to read through, take notes, make a list of questions, make notations of threads that you thought were particularly useful so you can go back to them, etc. Most of the "inside information" has been shared over and over by some very open salon owners - take advantage of their insights!

Best of luck!

Most bed manufacturers should be able to direct you to a leasing company they may have a partnership with (i.e., Sontegra suggests using Bankers Leasing) but its entirely up to the salon owner to make that choice. You should be able to do a search on this board and find valuable information about this topic.

Lease companies will vary widely depending on your situation. For example, Banker's tends to prefer to work with "established" salons - but is very good. Others will work with newbies, but will rob you blind! Agree that talking to your bed rep is generally a decent idea - they look bad if the person they refer you to winds up being scum! But look through these posts = there have been many threads on this topic already that will give you a "headstart" in knowing which ones to seek out and which ones to avoid!

I agree that the maket in Sac is very competitive as I am about 1 1/2 hours away. better do some heavy duty research & business plan if you are going into that area.

The market in the Greater Sacrametno area is definately saturated but not too competitive with equipment. A salon with good equipment could easily go into their and "Cherry Pick" the high end clients.

The area is oversold with Tan America and Ergoline. Clients in the area do not have many other choices besides low end older salons with TA or ETS.

I have done really well with Highline Capital...ask for Terry 770-517-1506 ...Banker Leasing **** Kath is great as well...it seems to be easier for me when someone is lending their own money, and not a broker.
