what is your competion? How many close by? This sounds stange but AFTER I opened my salon and went to the tanning convention I met two gentelmen that owned 8 salons, and they told me that if I wanted to blow the other salons away I should have done a radio promotion and offer free tanning for that day or two so people could go get their friends for the next day and offer all packages at 1/2 price and great deals on lotion and have giveaways,ex: 1 month in reg bed 2 weeks in your biggest (for ONLY that day) have about 6 to 8 staff on hand 3 bed cleaners depending on the # of beds you have,2 to 3 strong sellers at the desk an 1 outside getting the line of people excited with lotion packets (tossing them at set times) while the DJ was on the air telling listners where he was so the people would be yelling in the background to get peoples attention on the radio. I ofcorse was shocked, after all the money I had already invested and then the cost of the radio promo I couldn't imagine giving those kinds of deals.....until they told me that on each one of openings that they did this way depending on the location in 14 hrs they averaged ...ready...8 to 13k! on their opening day!!! To boot they now had a whole base of members. I fell over! It was brillant I will no doubt do it when I open my next salon. I just wish I would have met them sooner.
