Please Help!

I am thinking about opening a salon in our small town in north Florida.The closest tanning salon is about 20 miles away and they are always packed.Do you think this could work? Any comments would be appreciated. Thankyou!

What are the demographics for a 3 mile radius of where you plan on opening your salon. The salon 20 miles away will probably have completely different demographics than your area. From what I have been told you will draw from a 3 - 5 mile radius. How many people are there in that area around you? How many women age 18 - 44? How many men 18 - 44? These numbers will help you determine if your location can support a salon.

The last stat I heard is 8% of americans "admit" to tanning indoors. Figure 8% of your total population in a thirty mile radius and market to everyone. Now, if this area has a high "ethnic" population, that 8% figure goes right out the window. Good luck!

Market to a 30 mile radius? I would only making your decision on a 3 mile radius, 5 mile radius.

There's only one other salon for twenty miles. I'm sure some people will find an excuse to drive 20 minutes to tan at her place if they like ti better than the incumbent. Think big, be big. Good luck. Plus, what if the population for 3 miles in any direction is only 600 people? OOps.

I understand if they are the only salon...then I agree with you. Do you have the demographics for the location? How many people live in your town?

In a 3 mile radius we have a population of 13,000. In a 10 mile radius we have 28,500. The population here is 98% white. The average household income is $65,000.00

So, where you are there is no tanning salon? If they wanna tan they have to drive 20 miles? Are they..... driving 20 miles to tan or are they not tanning indoors at all?

It's great to offer a service that is not readily available, but if they don't need/want that service, it isn't so great. This is what you have to determine.

Our closest tanning salon is 20 miles away, everyone from our town drives that 20 miles to tan.

Everyone, or everyone that tans? How many do you estimate? Are these people going out there way to tan out of town, or on their way to other destinations?
