You should probably wait on getting the demos from DWhite first to determine how many beds you'll need. It's not a bad time to start your research, but the closer you can get to opening around Nov/Dec would be better instead of having to go through "slow season" for so long when you first open. What types of tanning plans/packages do you in mind? That in itself is a factor for the number of beds you might want to start with...i.e., if you are running EFT programs, it's tough to do - and some will say impossible to do - with 8 beds in a salon.

I know the EFT program is good to keep money coming in, but I don't think that would work in our town...not sure. I know the salon that is 20 miles away has packages and minutes no EFT's.
What is the tanning season for Florida? I know some people have said it lasts longer here than most other places. |

Get the new Tan Americas. You will have far fewer issues and happy tanners. That's what's important. Besides, the other place is like 20 minutes or more away, and if you follw Dwhite's advice, you'll only be marketing to people within 5 miutes drive time. Good luck.

I said I agreed with you...I didn't realize they were the only salon in town....of course they should market to the whole town...maybe the one next to them since people do not seem to mind driving 20 minutes!

I would agree with DWhite...just because the other salon doesn't have EFT plans, don't assume your customers will not want to utilize them. Keep in mind that you'll have all the other packages (or most) that the other salon has so having EFT as an option for your clientele could benefit you down the road. There are several ways to construct a good EFT plan.

EFT's are great for volume, unless you can get a decent buck per month, none of theat $18.88 craziness. And the types of tanners will determine the demand for EFT plans. Seasonal and event tanners will not want it.
