I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE SAY SOMETHING ENCOURAGING ON HERE TO SOMEONE WHO IS STARTING A NEW SALON. IF IT WAS REALLY THAT HARD AND THAT BAD I DONT THINK THAT THERE WOULD BE TANNING SALONS OPENING EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. I THINK PEOPLE ARE JUST TRYING TO DISCOURAGE OTHERS TO HELP ELIMINATE POSSIBLE COMPETITION.

My beds and equipment may not start out top notch, but I can be safe in saying that they will be an improvment compared to the existing beds. I gotta start somewhere..right!!!!

I am the most optimistic person on the planet (or pretty close)...I do not see how you could afford even the build-out of the salon?....

That putting it mildly.....50K for a what 6 bed salon ?? The electical & HVAC will be 20k or more...I suggest that you start smart, do a buisness plan first. If I had not done one I would be BK right here & now. You need lots of cash reserves to survive the first few years, period.

Guy's...please turn your caps off, you don't need to yell.

I don't usualy do this but I will make an exception here....

Miller I would not take any advise from some one that does not even have a Salon opened yet, I would certainly listen to the veteran Salon owners like Dwhite & myself. Salon's open everywhere every day and most fail in the first 12 months. Why ? Lack of cash reserves is # one and the failure to do the business plan & research, Such a demographics and soooo much more. I have a 7 unit salon plus have spray tanning services, if I could open another one up for $50k would have done Aloha # 2 & 3 . Three years & I still dread slow season. Statistics show that it can take 3 to 5 years to make a profit I hope to do just that this year. As far as competition I don't think anyone here wants to discourage you, we just want you to be in the real world (for lack of a better word).Slow season can cost you thousands just ask any seasoned owner, so I hope that you have a spouse & another job to get you through the hard times as tanning is seasonal .

There is a tanning convention in Vegas June 15th to 17th, I suggest that you start there & do the stuff mentioned above !!! Good Luck.........[ This Message was edited by: ALOHATANCA on 2005-04-28 17:01 ]

I try to help people but do give them the correct information. This here is not part of it. This industry is not easy however can you make money in it for sure but it has to be done right. I will not build a salon unless it's up to par to silence others in the area. As for tanning salon opening everywhere it's called the industry saturation only those that know what they are doing are going survive. Going straight out without a plan or good funding is not a recipe for success.
