I'm 95% sure I just had two belly rings stolen. I just redid my jewelry this morning, so I thought I knew what was there. I've had 2 customers since 10:00 a.m. how should I approach them? Or do I? HELP

Don't. You're in a lose/lose situation. If you accuse, even if you're right it can have negative legal consequences. Just let it go and chalk it up to a learning experience. Look for changes you can make to lessen the amount of theft. One way is to kill them with kindness. Again, make no accusations or implications with your words, but next time they come in kill them with your stunning customer service. They'll get the idea.

As bad as it may seem, anything that is not nailed down or locked in glass cages is liable to grow legs. It is one of those things that retailers have to expect. There are those people out there that just have to have what you have and because they cannot afford to buy it, they take the next easiest thich is the "five finger discount".
You cannot afford to approach them if you did not see the thieft. Don't accuse anyone of thieft unless you cought it on camera or you saw them tourself. |

We own a gift shop and we have had a few things stolen, but unless we see them stick it in there pocket we don't say anything. Because if we are wrong then that customer will not return. We went to Sams Club and purchased 3 cameras and a monitor for less than $200.00. It is the best investment we ever made. So if you ever suspect someone, you can just rewind the tape and watch it. We put a couple of signs up to make customers aware of them. Even if you just need one camera for the counter or wherever your jewelry is, It will save you money in the long run and customers.

Yeah, Sams has some nice deals on cams, and you can add time lapse DVRs for a couple hundred more. They set up a nice display with several models a few weeks ago, and I got excited thinking they were going to expand their selection. Sadly, a week later it was gone and they're back to just one.
I'm waiting for a standalone, TCP/IP network ready DVR to get sub $400 before I buy one. The alternative is to load an old PC with a capture card and record at my house, with just a video server at the salon. I really don't like a DVR at the shop, and want to keep the Windows PC off the broadband connection. However, right now video servers are still above $500 for the most part, too. |

Peeling is generally either a n indication of UV OVEREXPOSURE or leprosy. You probably don't have leprosy. Hopefully the trinket jewelery was 5 & 10 $ stuff, I'd blow it off and try to move the display a little farther out of easy reach, but close enough to still be viewed. Cleptos I think are low percentage custos anyway, but SUSPECT EVERYONE! Good luck.
