LMAO!! William Hung might scare them away..then again, people would love to just see him! Yeah, I think a free gift basket with purchase is a good idea. I will start making the baskets this week. i offered free a tan for the day if my current clients bring a friend. I just picked up my formal invitations today, they came out so nice! I am going to personally hand them to each current client.
Parrot-- I am so sorry that your grand opening was "a bust". i sure hope I don't get let down that way. Here I am worrying that I won't have enough for people and that they might be standing around. I am learning from your experience, either way. I too, live in a college town. Most of my clients are college students. I have a group of Girls college softball team. Hopefully they will bring the rest of the team! Thanks for all of the ideas. keep em coming!! Mardi Gras was a bust for me. WE had a small fire in the overhead lighting outside. The fire started in the ceiling above my lobby area. Fire marshall shut me down for the weekend. My electrician secured the area, so I spent all day cleaning. The fire was my landlords fault!!! he left old transformers in the ceiling that were still live. Glad this happened now rather than later. Firemen said it had been smoldering for some time! As if I don't have enough on my mind already!!! Maybe this week will make up for it. Then we can make the best out of the Grand Opening!! thanks yall. |

Hottiestan---Keep us posted on your grand opening sucess. I surely hope it goes well for you. I know everyone can learn from their mistakes, but consumers are a fickle bunch. I really wasn't prepared for such a bust day. O' well, but our Sunday, with only being open 6 hours, was much much better then our grand opening Saturday. I hope my experience helps shed some light on what could happen and makes you a little more prepared for you opening. Good luck

I had a big argument with my husband over having a grand opening. A buddy of his suggested the chamber of commerce ribbon cutting and all that. I was against it. Who the heck cares about a tanning salon? It's not the first Walmart in the area or a new hospital wing. I reminded him of another salon in the area that did the big grand opening and flopped. I doubt there's too many people get excited over yet another tanning salon opening up unless there are none or they are all very bad. They know you are going to offer deals the first few months anyway.

We had a ribbon cutting with the local chamber and 20 members showed up. It was just to get our picture in the local sub. paper. It did not bring in anyone, but they did take a bunch of coupons back to their stores or offices. I do not think you should count on any chamber event to bring in your customers. I went around to all of the apartment complexs in the area and gave the property management manager referral cards and for every card that came in they earned free tanning. It was a great and inexpensive way to reach our area! We had a great response with the refferal cards. We also printed flyers for the pizza box tops and that worked as well.
