Re: first day opened...is this normal?
Yeah, but isn't Nov. the best time to open, so you can get the glitches out before season rolls around? That's what I've always been told......

Re: first day opened...is this normal?
When we first opened, yes we are a tanning salon corporation so its different, but we opened a new salon 2,000 miles away from where we are well known, we had the giant banners that advertised us and the freebie too, then we went to the malls in the area which really helps. Our staff all wears a shirt with the logo and name so it helps that anywhere we went people saw it even if we didnt talk to them. we had small flyers for the mall and business's. but also we offered $5 added to customers accounts for refering a friend. and that really helps business. well ours anyway,
since your just opening make sure you have something that sets you apart from other salons whether its free winkies and towels, customer service, equipment something, so the people you get in with the freebie will stay. there is no sense in spending money and time on ads if you arent going to be able to keep them when they come in. one other thing about staying open even when no one is coming in. This past summer i was visiting my parents and I wanted to tan. There was a grand opening for a salon down the street. so I went in, their lotions were over priced and the sessions were too, but i dont care about that, and they only had 2 beds one stand up, the only thing decent was the standup so i used that. the girl didnt know much, and the typical stereotype of talking on the phone chewing gum and all that was in place but she was nice. so anyway another day i went to go back there once around 5 they close at 7 and they were closed the sign said sorry they had to close early, I called another day during their hours and no one picked up, another time I stopped by in the afternoon and they were closed. my mom wanted to tan and since she lives around there she chose another salon based on that. I would have bought a package for the two weeks. Even though it sucks that you might only get two people it is so important to stay open for the hours you advertise. make sure everyone working there has plenty of training on skincare and lotions. |

Re: first day opened...is this normal?
I opened in Nov. 2004 and did one week free (level one) for a while. To this day,..knock on wood,...I have not had to borrow from my capital. Nothing wrong with opening in November. It is how much you advertise and what you offer.
