Hello all, I would like to say thanks for the site, it's great.
I'm looking to open up a 5 bed salon just wondering if 3 20min 1 15min 1 48v Sundome was a good startup package. The building is about 850-9OO sq ft. will 200 amps phase 3, will that power suffice. It also has a 3 ton AC is that enough (I dont think so). The rent is only 600/mo. The salon will be in a small college town around 5500 kids, with a local pop around 3000 (not to mention the surrounding rurual area) The only comp. is for a few hair salons with 1 bed. How much should I charge? $6 20min $8 15min $12 10min standup Is this to much! Also, i have a descent paying job, that I will keep. I will only be able to be around 40% of the time, will this work! Is it profitable? Please give any advice, thank you. |

hmm i don't know where to start...
200 amps will not suffice at all. you could def use 600 amp 3 phase but your better to upgrade it to 800 just incase you ever add a couple more beds. Its cheaper to make it 800 now then do it after you have already put in 600. That alone itself could run you anywhere between 2000-15000 depending if you have enough electric alotted to the building. You will also need at least 1.5 tons per room of air conditioning. Also remember the thing with college towns is they have breaks and long summers. Will the population in the city be able to support you when those 5500 students are out of town? What are the demographics like? What are the names of the beds? are they used? how many hours? how old? How much does your comeptition within a 6 mile radius charge for tanning. There are to many factors to give you answers. You should start a business plan and get aquainted with figuring out your overhead costs and break even costs. |

You definitely need to upgrade electrical. It doesn't sound like you have much in the way of competition so that is a good thing. If you are only able to be aroung 40% of the time you better have someone outstanding to take care of things for you. My husband works his full time job and helps at the salon often. I am there 7 days a week in addition to our employee. Good luck with your decision.
