Wow...13 beds? You must have a huge place then. Did you started out as a tanning business and expand into the hair/nail or was it the other way around? Or did you do it all at once? Any tips would be nice. Thanks

Tom

If you did completely tanning you would not have to be concerned with the overhead, possibly.
My opinion, everybody has one.

We decided to just make our salon a full service tanning salon.... Nothing else... We actually have a coffee shop where I live that offers tanning... That kind of grossed me out to have people eating and drinking while you are laying right nextdoor tanning.....ick

We own a 10 bed, 1 Magic Tan salon with one full time nail tech. Every single day we make profit and being the slow season the nail tech is the main reason. We provide the supplies and pay her 45% of the overall sale. Its simple economics. Tanning has a demographics of 70-75% women who want to look better. Many get their nails done every 2 weeks. Why not get all their money instead of making them, I mean letting them, go elsewhere to get their nails done.

If you have the space DO IT. The smell is not at all noticeable with the right layout. We have fans throughout the salon.

I have a client that is very successful offering both services. In the shopping center they are in they bought two storefronts side by side. THey have a door going inbetween the two. They call it a nail salon and spa. It is beautiful and that is where I personally go get my tan and get my spa manicure and pedicure. He also remembers every regular client by first name.
I feel that tanning and nails go very hand in hand. As a matter of fact so does a few tanning lotion manufacturers. There will be a very large lotion manufacturer now offering items such as nail polish displays and other things of that nature! Look for it in the November Issue of Tanning Trends!

I have been traveling the eastern part of the state for location possibilities,
you would not believe it.
I have saw tanning in, grocery stores, produce buildings, even a service station,
ohhh, but the best one was a mobile home converted to a tanning salon.
I will be very honored to put professional salons in these places and sent these
yo,yos packing, talk about devaluating our industry.....da--!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
