Hello All... I wanted to introduce myself. I am opening my first salon "Tickled Pink Tanning Salon & Accessories" Nov 1 st and am looking forward to knowledge and advice from members. We will be starting with 1 reg bed, 2 SunSystem Pro Le28, and 1 standup Sundome XL48. Also, we are incorporating a boutique in 2 rooms which we will offer handbags, lingerie, and fashion jewelry. Any opening, advertising advise would be greatly appreciated.

Ok Ms. Georgia ... I guess I don't have to tell ya that unless you have a huge *** Population you won't be seeing too many men in your salon

What lotions are you planning on carrying? .... Might I suggest you get a TON of Drama Queen from Designer Skin and John Abate's Baby .... they will both fit right in

Do you other salons within a 5 mile radius of your location?

And since you are catering to a strickly female crowd ... do you have room to put in Nails or Waxing?

I would suggest (if you have a larger force of under thirty) to get an airbrush for Temporary Tattoos....

Yes, that sounds great... I put the JA Babie posters in the rooms (looks good)

Yes, I do have some competition just up the block but hopefully will not be bothered as we are pushing as "upscale" tanning salon & boutique.

Thanks for the pointers --I'll have to get some of their lotions.

Have a great evening.

It has been my experience that a tanning salon / boutique will not produce the income from tanning that it would as a primary tanning salon. Tanning over the years has become a very specialized business and the majority of the tanners in most markets are looking for a tanning salon. Men will not tan at a boutique, this eliminates 30% of your potential tanning demographic, not to mention how much of the female market you will eliminate by being a boutique. I hope your salon becomes the unique one that will change this statistic, if not remember not to wait to long before you correct the situation if need be and become a tanning salon.

In some instances - that would be correct.... but I think if Chunn did a poll on how many salon owners wish they had a viable second income from a diverse offering ~ I'd bet it would be high....

It again all has to do with what your area NEEDS .... BTW X-treme Topics has a kewl website and offers Boarding Lifestyle items.... I'd be curious as to how well this second source of income fares along with tanning - - - or is it just as seasonal as tanning???

I made the error of using a room for Theraputic Massage.... I truly believe in the health benefits of UV Tanning and also feel that we are ALL bombarded with diseases and pre-genetically coded with cancers ~ ~ it is STRESS that weakens the body and therefore it's ablity to remain healthy and battle back against disease.....

When I am Ruler of the World ~ ( ) Health insurance companies will be paying for atleast 2 Massages a month ~ and UV Tanning!!! It is this that will SAVE the world from being sick and crabby

But......... the masusse was scary and really did not listen to her clients.... and, people can drop $60 on tanning ~ but not $60 on both..... the clients she got from me ~ were in fact, diverting Money I would normally make on tanning....

Drop kicked her butt to the curb in 2 months - - got another bed in that room.... and never looked back.

We all want to differentiate ourselves... I am sure our Georgia Girl knew it would be a chick hang out.... so she might have took the loss of the Male Crowd into her thoughts....

I'd love to see how this works out..... It would be hard to back out of it with that Salon Name..... let's keep the 'Pink' an attitude and not an actual result of tanning

1 of my salons I purchased a year ago was a tanning and botique, they were filing bankruptcy after only 1 year
in business.
I purchased the tanning salon, did not want the botuque part, added more tanning rooms the botique space took up, already this salon is my 2nd best money maker.
Within a month after I changed the name and made it a full service tanning salon, it was smokin!!!!
Tell you anything??????

Its all about your salon and your clients and how you set it up. I have a tanning salon with a boutique and custom made jewelry and we do very well..Our clients say they really enjoy the one stop shopping and they think we have the cutest stuff... I am happy to say thank you boutique for the extra income...
