One of the benefits of opening a salon in a college community is that you have two busy seasons. The first season starts when the semester starts in Sept and the second starts when the traditional season starts about the second week of Feb. Don't get so focused on the students that you overlook the locals.

We could if we go through the SBA. Although Im having second thoughts, I'll let you know of my progress. Now Im doing more research on the negative side of the biz, something I should have done more of and a long time ago.

.......and here comes the "told ya so's!"....

Keep it up! The more informed you are, the more successful you will be. It's definitely not impossible to start up a salon at your age, but it will be a huge educational experience. Just make sure to build in at least six months of salary draw for you from the SBA loan (they will probably require it). We did not budget enough of this and that was a problem when we opened. With the drive that you seem to have, it will be hard for you to fail!

I would do a "search" first and come up with a couple that suit your plan.

Do not count on the SBA to loan, actually backup, a tanning salon. They, or most banks see this as a seasonal (risky) business. They would rather finance a laundromat, nude bar, grocery store..something with an obvious "need"/ "desire"/

been there, and it is a long road..better off doing it yourself.

I am getting ready to purchase a salon and I am tring to figure out how you know what the client list is worth?? The inventory is on about $600.00 and the beds are only worth $3500.00 and the asking price is $20,000.00 It has done very well in the past but she has let it go (age and health) she hasn't changed the bulbs in over 18 mo.
