We are planning on putting a new salon in a brand new strip mall. It is located across from a movie theatre,restuarant/bar,nail salon. There are no other salons within a 5 mile radius. The population in that 5 mile radius is 120,000. It looks good I think and there are several new home subdivisions that are building within a mile of the location. The back of our location backs to a major highway so we would have great sign visibility. What do you all think? We are looking at investing $140,000 of our savings in Buildout, 8 beds, and this includes 6 months of expenses in the event we dont make a dime in the beginning. We will also have airbrush/tattoos, small line of retail. Does 600 amp service and 8 tons of a/c sound OK?Please give me your expertise advice!

TANMIMI it sounds like you have your act together, the A/C should be fine, the service is plenty (IMO). By the sounds of those Demographics it sounds like you have a an excellent oppratunity. The one thing I wish we had was street sign visability, but neither of my locations had signing available (grrrrr). So only above the salon for me.

Does it sound like we are putting in too much amp (600)? The landlord said they did an electronics store with only 400 amp. I also left out in my original post that 2 of the new home subdivisions are just starting to put the streets in. They are probably 6-12 months away from people actually living there. I know it will be slow at first but with these people moving to the area it should be great for sales in years 2,3,4 and so on. I hope!

All of our salons are in need of 800 amps and 20 tons of air. The air sounds low to me?

We are opening with 8 beds and hope to expand to 10. What do you think I need for the a/c tonnage? I figured that 600 amp service should be plenty. Thanks for everyones input! This forum is great help!

Amount of A/C will depend upon the equipment you purchase. You should get the A/C requirement for each piece of equipment from the manufacturer. You will probably want to take into account your specific location also.

What is the average size that you guys would suggest for a lobby. I have up to 1300sq ft to work with. But I would like to save alot of that for future build out. Community is small and I am just starting with 5 beds.
That seems to be my main problem so far.

A ten bed salon will only draw from 3 miles, how does that demographic look? Being next to they highway is great. 600 amps is a good idea even though you will never need that much for 10 systems. 8 tons of AC is not enough you will probably need as much as 16 tons depending on your equipment mix.
