I know this has been addressed in the past but I'm interested in any new information. I'm referring to the credit card sized pre-paid cards or gift cards that can be personalized to compliment your salon. Anyone want to share their experiences with the cards, who to get them from, who not to get them from, and cost associated with the cards and processing them. Thanks, Mark

I get mine thru my CC processor as West Side said. I pay a monthly fee to use them and approx $1.50 per card to purchase. I am strongly considering going back to paper gift certs because of the cost involved. Some months we sell very few making the fee seem large. Haven't decided yet....

Pam's right on the money here. We design and print both gift certs and gift cards. There are positives and negatives to both. Here's what you have to consider:

Gift Certs
Inexpensive to produce 5,000 pcs for only $375 including the design
Can be prenumbered $.02 each
Full color on both sides
Typically hidden behind counter
Fit into #10 envelope

Gift Cards
More expensive to produce 500 pcs $1.00 each including the design (1000 pcs $.50 ea)
Barcode sequential numbering included
Full color on front/black ink on back
Typically placed in POP Display to increase sales and exposure
Tap-in (rubber cement that never fully dries) to a preprinted card $1.50 each with denomination on it ($100, $75, $50, $25) and placed in 4-step literature holder $25
or
Hole drilled $50 in tap-in card for Slatwall/pegboard pegs
