You are starting right by doing lots of research befor you jump in. It is a fun, creative business...but..it is also a lot of hard work, long hours and several very slow months each year. Check out the search feature on this site (and others, as there is valuable information on most of them) and review old posts. As far as the value of the beds you are considering, you need to know the cumulative hours on each bed (most have an internal counter) ans well as judging the physical condition. Know that these beds may get you through a season but you will probably want to replace them soon. Used beds depreciate quickly. Also, you need to see the books of the salon to see database size, active packages, pricing structure, etc. It is as big a job (if not bigger) to take over a failing salon and try to make it go. It is failing for a reason. Find out why.
Not trying to discourage you at all but go in with your eyes WIDE open!! I would have done things a lot differently if I had taken the time to research much more before I opened my salon. The thing that has saved me is all the wonderful people I have met online and at trade shows who have been willing to share their experiences with me. Keep us posted! Pam |
