How big of a salon are you opening? I think the bigger the salon the more you need to be able to listen to more than 1 station. Your right about only listening to only 1 station on XM. You would have to have another XM receiver to receive another station at the same time. I only have a small salon and in the village I live in XM works out great. If I had a bigger salon say 10+ beds I would look to being able to having multiple listening channels for the customers. Another thing is what beds are you getting? There are beds that have there own radio/cd player in the bed with speakers also. Also beds that have channel selectors for listening to different radio channels. So these are some things to consider also. |

I got my rooms (6) wired to the same stereo. You people must have lousy music stations. We listen to stern till 11, Rock/classic rock till 12, 80s and ol school rap till 2, rock/classic rock/pop till close.
Is it repetitive? Sometimes. But if I ever care enough I can send a couple cables from this very pc and just play mp3s or something. Remember your computer is the best free cd player/jukebox there is and it doesn't need to be anything special. set up different play lists (you got NUTHIN TO DO ANYWAY and you know this) in free music players and just adjust as necessary. |

What I have found is the XM with 4 different recievers that can all be connected to my rooms. Then Im getting a turn dial with 4 station options they can choose, like cosmos. Also its great because 2 of my beds already have stereos in them and you can hook up the XM to them. Its $40 a month to have the 4 station option plus the installers are throwing in 2 caddies for my cars so if I want to I can just put them in my vehicle when I leave work and use it myself.

"My problem is I need a system where the clients can choose what they want to listen to. I know people who might not want to listen to jazz and might want country, or want to listen to reggae not rock, so on and so on. I went to a salon where they had speakers in each room with a a turn dial that went to a choice of 8 commercial free different stations. Does anyone know who does this?"
DMX proivdes the functionality your looking for via the BI-Amp pump station, which really is a a hybrid mixer that connects to their receiver and allows you to splitoff up to 8 types of music at a time. I have it in my salon and it works great. The service is about $120 / mo, depending on how many channels you host, but I will tell you the investment in equipment is not for the faint of heart...all told cost me about $5K for equipment, speakers, and cable runs. I have an upscale salon in an upscale area so I thought it was a nice personal touch to allow our clients to select from up to 4 difffernt channels of music, and they love that feature. I scoured the interenet and various providers who could do the same thing but cheaper and came up with 0. If your electroncially inclined or know someone who is you might be able to do it yourself and save some costs, but in the end having them do it and do it right was worth it. As far as the music slection goes, there are literally over 100 catagories you can select from, and updates can be done via the internet or CD's that they send you (thats the method I chose and it literally takes 2-3 minutes to update each month, very easy). T-Max came out with their system just as I was opening so i did not have an opportunity to look at it, but sounds promising, I would look at them as well. Hope that answers your question Jen, good luck! |

I personally have XM for home and for my auto and feel that the service is outstanding. There is a monthly fee of 9.99 for home and 6.99 for auto, plus the initial startup fee (Think it was about 15.00)I have a friend who has sirrius, Which he is very hapy with as well. You should go to both web sites and you will find a list of channel options (Which you can listen to online) One last piece of advice, If you are planning on using the service in your salon, make sure you have acces to a South/west window or roof location for the antenna or your reception may be insufficient.

I used to be affiliated with DMX Music and would not use them, I've tried XM and was not at all impressed. Check out this link for my best choice in music through dish network. I was sent this link from a friend that works there and through it you can get an awesome deal. I don't know how long it will last but I highly recommend it. I think it is some kind of employee discounted program. The dish has done so much better than DMX's dish in bad weather + you get lots of TV channels! So far so good! here it is: http://www.vmcsatellite.com/?aid=110402

I am opening up a new salon and have also been looking at music sources for customer comfort and salon's ease of use. I'm checking out TFBN's DMX at this time. But, I was told that there is not a dish with this system. A new CD-R is sent to the salon every month with songs to be downloaded to a special hard drive. It can be programmed to start at a certain time of day with one type of music and change at set times to a different type of music.
I went to T-Max's site for info on their music system. But could not find any prices. Does anyone have any info on that? |
