Anyone have some insight as to a better move? buying an existing business or starting one from scratch. Trying to weigh the pros and cons.

It depends on the current business, updated units? Large rooms? Good parking? Room for expansion? Honest books?

Units are about 6 years old...6 booths and 2 standups. Parking is adequate and so is room size. There is some room for expansion but the books are a handwritten ledger. Not much to actually verify.

Hello: I manage a Community Recreation Center. WE are trying once again to Add A Sun Tan Booth to our facility. We are open 100 hours / week. WE have about 300-400 patron per day. Do you think it is realistic to project $24,000 in revenue the first year?

Marilee, I saw that you posted this question separately, so I hope someone answers your question there. If I had to guess, I would say probably so.

To Vette. Obviously there are always going to be a lot of variables. In your situation I think one of the biggest factors is your current competition. We bought an existing salon 4 years ago. The beds were 6-7 years old then, but they were the nicest in our area. We kept the beds, but put in top of the line lamps, and our numbers in our first year exceeded the previous owners by about 125%. We've continued to grow every year since then by 25-40%. That combined with second to none customer service, should make you a success if your situation is similar to ours going in.
