How many of you who have opened small salons wrote a business plan yourself (if at all)?? I'm sure it is useful (if not required) if you are financing?
Also, are there grants out there that are available?? I've found TONS of sites saying, "Pay us to find you hundreds of business grants for women and small businesses" but they, of course, are not FREE services!! At this point, I could use all the financing help I could get, since that would allow me to put my cash in other services/inventory/ etc... BJ North FL |

Have done a business plan, most of us have. You will need your own capital to start though. YES, you will find many sites about grants and pay them, but keep searching. The library is a great source of information also. Check with your local community college.

I am working with a lady that was told that if she paid $1,000 she will get information on how to get a grant. The problem is, knowing how to get a grant will not help you because there are absolutely NO GRANTS AVAILABLE. You can apply for an SBA loan and get up to 80% funding on your project. She paid the $1,000 and was told how to get a grant, but they could not tell here where to get a grant. After some struggle she got her money back.

I agree, you should not have to pay for the information and training required to open and operate a successful salon, I provide all of this to my clients FREE. I am not talking about the little bit of information that distributors and manufacturers provide. I am speaking of in depth detailed information, material and training that if followed will insure your success in this industry.

Steve,
My daughter and I are close to buying a building to start a tanning salon. We have completed the business plan and recieved pre approval on both a business loan and real estate loan. We have researched every aspect throughly except demographics. After talking to a few people and reading more than a few postings I think we need a little help in this area. So far I have spent hours on the internet mostly going through census reports. I can get the information for the city I am in but I can not narrow it down to a 5 mile radius around the building we are planning on buying. Can you help? Thanks hopefu; |
