Wait till next year.
By the time you got started you will have missed the best part of the season and find yourself struggling through months and months of slow season without the revenue needed to sustain yourself from the busy season. It also gives you more time to prepare, as for leasing the beds or not option, this will also give you time to research which beds you should buy because there are MANY barely used commercial beds for sale that you can buy for a MUCH better price than you would be able to lease or purchase a brand new bed for. I bought all my beds new when I started, however at the time I had NO IDEA that there was such a huge market of wonderful used but practically new equipment that was available. Use the internet to educate yourself about the industry and you will be much happier that you waited and saved yourself from many mistakes and money losses. |

I am going out on a limb here but it sounds as though you haven't done as much research as you claim. Not knowing what it means to be certified is kind of a big deal. I suggest you check out some of the tanning training websites - http://www.tanningtraining.com/ and http://www.smarttan.com/. June is a horrible time to get started. It is a start to the slower season which can help drain you financially since you would not have had a busy season to support you. It will also be some time, most likely, before you start making any money or even a salary. Read as much as you can and talk to attorneys about how to structure your business. What is right for one person isn't necessarily right for another. -Dawn |

I am also looking at buying an existing salon with 6 beds. I think this would be a better option for me. I am looking at what would be best for me. Do you think buying a salon now would be alright. I have a meeting with the guy in the morning. Better chance of success I think. He is selling because ha manages alot of business and he does not have time to work there. What do you think?

the best time too start planning a new salon opening is sept. but dont rent the spot till nov. most rental property if a long term lease is involved like 3 or more years will give you the first three months rent free too get the property in order so plan too start construction of rooms in november be completed by jan. too open also start your advertising in jan. typicaly the season starts in feb much luck in your new adventure a word of caution i have put many salons together and the ones that failed opened after the season had started! or they spent the money they made during the season too uncautiously
