You devalue your salon right of the bat.
And set a pattern of them (if they stay) looking for more deals... HOW can you do better then FREE? Some may not agree with me..and well ask me if I care. I am posting this to prevent newbies from making a mistake...that not only will leave alot of money on the table. But they also set up the new client to subconscienciously not trust you. Free why is free??? hmmm they must suck... We all know nothing in life is free. Right?? so the Customers who are willing pay good money for a good tan and average or above normal intelligence will wonder FREE ...why? Do you get your first dinner free at local resturants? First cut free at hair salons? we have all heard this arguement before. the reason why it comes up is because it is valid arguement. All you do is attract the freebie vultures. That salon hop and never ever pay for a tan. Even carpet cleaners give you a FREE cleaning IN ONE small room...usually only IF you get 2 or more rooms cleaned at the same time. Right???? A few regularly priced small packages....with Freebies attached. Like two free upgrades. Or maybe a 3 pack..to be used in 7 days...at a nice get them in the door rate. I offer Buy one get one free. This works well for me. I do not have a student rate..so it is single walk in rate. If you have a student rate..it is not smart to double discount anything. Offer it to them at adult rate. As for basic packages... Whether you choose minutes, points, visits, sunnies, or stars..however you set up your packages....Do not come out the gate LOW!! Note: never forget it is easy to add value....have specials... Coupons... If you need to lower the prices later. But it is very hard to go up in prices...especially if you are new. You will have to justify a price increase in the clients eyes..that is not easy eevn with experienced salon owners. Even harder for newbies. Start out smart and high..adjust accordingly. JMHO And Free is only asking for people to pretend to be 5 different clients with different employees...on different shifts. Because they never want to pay for a tan. Why leave money on the table and clusterkc*F your database with BS names...and addresses?? Good Luck All... have a great season. _________________ Total world domination will be MINE..including Canada!! MuhahahahahahahHA [ This Message was edited by: MJ on 2004-02-19 23:55 ] |

I said my best attention getter..when I get the calls---
"do you guys offer first tan free????????" Here is what we offer: "Buy one visit, get one free..IN ANY OF OUR BEDS - for new clients ONLY ONE TIME ONLY SPECIAL DEAL." That keeps them from hanging up on us. Any salon hopper who wants to pay nothing or nect to nothing for their tan will take this offer. And take the time and effort to salon hop to obtain a free tan..literally. Stupid i know but it happens..all the time. The key to keep salon hopper from coming back a 2 week later and pretending to be new is ID all new clients. NO ID NO TAN...SOO SOLLY Charlie! Not to mention the new member INTRO specials...which most want to get see added value. I offer Buy 5 visits-get 3 visits FREE **Reg. bed package only, and visits the five is purchased at regular price.Package expires in 90 days. Why do you ask??? If they bought a package worded "8 visits for 29.00"..no matter how many disclaimers you tack on there. They only remember it was "8 for 29.00" Why is it more now?!?! Just so you know, they are not listening to you after they think your just ******* jacking up the prices..you lost a client, or worse have a client with a attitude. Don't ask me why their memories are selective they just are. I usually get the newbie to purchase a buy 1 get 1 free in our VHR level three beds and they never really go back to the base beds. Good luck _________________ Total world domination will be MINE..including Canada!! We give out passes to our members that allows there friend to tan for free. We do this to encourage members to bring in potential members. We also give them $20 credit good for upgrades. Birds of feather flock together.
For the free loaders we deter them with our buy 1 visit get 2 free offer for 1st time tanners. That usually knocks out those looking for a free tan and gives us 3 chances to win the new customers trust. |

I just had to sign up to talk on here so I could put my 2 cents in. MJ how many salons do you own and what are your gross revenues?? I get sick and tired of people like you who always think they are so much smarter then everyone else...but you know what...who really cares what you think? If you don't want to give a free tan to your customers then don't, but don't tell me or anyone else that does that we don't know what we are doing. some of us are very successful..others maybe not so.. but don't sit there and tell me what I am doing is not right.

I don't think it's a bad philosophy to offer a free tan. Of course you will get those who take advantage of it, but you will also get those who will come into your salon and stay with you. I'd be confident in my salon to know that once they came in the door and saw what I had to offer, they'd be a regular.

Ufffdah ~ I was not aware that PlanetBeach allowed their salons to set their own pricing ... but that's kewl ~ if it were not for dissenting opinions being shared in these forums, we would be talking about Tanners peeing in the Wastebasket 24/7 ~ right?
I think the premise was LOST by the goldfish attention span..... getting focused on ONE PART of the thread is not going to have the desired effect ~ imho. So many people think that by offering the FIRST TAN FREE the increase their ability to increase their client database - - - Not necessarily so - - - You increase the amount of Playas..... I believe MJ's message was that IF you want to comp them a tan to entice them into your salon - LINK it with some sort of SALE process... Now - I won't ask to see the size of your salon or genitalia before I decided if YOU have the right to post on any site. Funny how many men on these sites want to whip it out to measure your 'right' to speak... LOL! I get private messages on multiple sites from newbies that have or are getting stung from the Freebie Clients - - - I think MJ's post is quite helpful to those that are able to read ALL of it - take what is of value and disregard what they feel is not... Funny how that is - eh? |

Dear Mike - -
Please review this 'hidden post' and advise me of WHAT would lead your moronic team of Brain Surgeons to censor it...... If it is truly the premise of tantalk to only allow morons a place to babble - then by all means - delete any reply that has a modicum of intelligence..... As this is a public forum - and your moderators are violating the premise of open discussion - you may wish to pull the plug on the entire site before they cause Tantalk to become the next STC...... |
