Our ad in the phone book offers the first tan for free. We only give it up though if you ask for it. Also Like TE we will only let first time customers tan for so long. We got sued a couple of years ago for burning someone. When someone on the phone ask about it I say "tell you what go to so and so salon pay for a visit and then come here and get your free visit, then you can decide who has better beds". I believe that if I can get them to come in on thier second visit they of course will get moore. I keep a large percxentage of my first time customers.

Also, if you give away free tans, what's stopping your employees from ringing up "free" tan from a new paying customer and pocketing your money?
I would never give free tans. It implies that your salon is not worth your selling price and gives the illusion that your product is inferior thus you have to give it away. We have a first time deal selling our top level beds that normally go for $22.00 a tan and sell that for $10.00 for 10 minutes. First time tanners can use this and anyone that has not been in this level can also use it. This generates a lot of traffic into our upper level beds. Once they try it they are hooked. Giving away anything free is an open invitation to your employees stealing you blind. |

When we first opened. We offered 3 tans for $10. We would then credit the $10 back if they signed up. This why they would commit to purchasing and they can see the some result after three tans. Just not coming for a “FREE” tan. We do not do FREE tans but offer complimentary tans (NOT to everyone that walks in but for the business cards we give out to people)

I am with the program. It just baffles me how some people won't give a new client a free trial session, but will give everyone in town a free session on weekends? Which is the lesser of the two evils?

Neon, the first one IMHO. How long before tanners start calling you on the phone, and instead of asking to make an appointment, or what type of beds you have, or what your prices are, will they start asking question like what are you giving away free today? as they bring in their lotion they bought off the Internet. I was going to say I feel like a whore but they at least get money for their services. |
