I'm in lease negotiations for a startup tanning salon and want to make sure I'm covering all my bases before moving forward. My vision is for ultimately 10 mid to upper level beds, with only 6 beds to start. 2 beds will be 30-40 bulb range w/ facials, 1 spray booth, 1 high pressure (50+ bulb) bed and one 48+ bulb standup unit. Specs call for ranges of 40-75 amps/bed. I'm wondering what types of electrical requirements you've found within your businesses? Will 200 amps be enough to start? What kind of costs have you found in upgrading the electrical for your location? All help is greatly appreciated.

The best to do is add up all the equipment you are going to purchase and what you may plan to purchase in the future. Also you must take into consideration you AC, lighting, computers etc. Once you have that, add up all the amp draw on the units and then you can determine what service to run. Again, it all depends on if your units can be wired IIIPH or not. Most bigger units will give you an option to wire I or III Ph. It is more cost effective to run as much as you can IIIPH. Then you must also find out what you voltage is to the building. Most units you purchase will require at a minimum of 220 volt to 235 Volts. Buck/Boost transformers may be required. Also, figure out what timer system you plan to use and wire this also prior to constuction. If you need help, just pm me and I will give you my direct number. Jeff
