We are pretty casual. Our employees have our logo shirts, plus the lotion shirts to wear if they want. As long as they stay respectable I am not going to institute a mandatory dress code.

Why would you think barefoot is "tacky and dirty"? I don't, my customers don't either. I guess for different towns or areas, there are different ideas. I wish some people would not try to "run down" other people. Some of us could get their feelings hurt!! (sob,,sob)

I am sure that different salons have different feels to them. A salon with 4 beds in a town of 15,000 is going to be on a way different level than a mega salon with 30+ beds. We have mid sized salons (14-17 per salon) and I would not allow bare feet, bare midriffs, or bare shoulders. My dress code is not strict, just must be a top with some kind of sleeve and go past waist. Bottoms can be anything that go down 2" past butt cheeks. We keep our salons at 65 degrees so it is not usually an issue......they wear jeans and sweatshirts all year.

I do have a small salon, 5 beds in a small town, you just about know everyone when they walk in the door. That's why I said it is "down home and relaxed", because if you say you are from a small town in Louisiana people automatically think you are a coon-*** or redneck. (Although there are many, we aren't all like that)!! We are very neat and clean, that is our main proprity.

The dress code that I expect of my employees is not as nearly as strict as the one I enforce for myself. VERY, VERY rarely do I wear sweatshirts or T shirts. I wear skirts, kahkis, capris and blouses or sweaters. Although it is a casual business, I feel I should dress in at least "business casual" apparel. I dress to get the respect that I have earned. I was once taught "if you dress like you mean business people will treat you like you mean business", and I am a firm believer of that.
