Hello,
I was wondering if fellow salon ownders could tell me what thier rates are for tanning. Please include price, type of bed, what extras you provide the clients, and whether it is per session or by the minute. Also is it best to go by the session or by the minute, personally I prefer by session, but what do your clients and you think? |

You are asking for great answers, but you should ask the salons near you. Because, prices vary from state to state. what state are you in. I just called the salons around me, and act like you are a client. IF they want your business they will give you their prices. I give prices to anyone who calls, I love competition.

salons in my area carge at a minimum 40$ for unlimited months and it goes up from there 90% of the salons in my area have the standard 28 bulb beds some are even plastic i live in california the salons all have a monthly price sell minutes and by session you should offer all i think and let the customer choose just make one more desirable than the other so theyll spend more money ...just my 2 cents

I don't think that anyone here can provide you everything you need. Check your demographics - what can people afford? |

first question ....i was wondering if someone could tell me what there rates are for tanning
...my answer ....in my area it starts at 40$ for an unlimited month... 2nd question....please include price and type of bed .... ....my answer...most have the standard 28 lamp bed some are plastic ..... ..and finally is it by sessions or minutes and which do you or the clients prefer..... ....my answer....i replied i live in california and all the salons in my area offer monthly...minutes and sessions too..also saying that i think it is a good idea to offer all so the client can choose what is best for them ... now if those are not answers i am confused i was unaware that you wanted me to go from salon to salon for you recording there prices and bed manufacturers ....i can tell you that i was just trying to help you and i was not expecting a rude reply from you ...most answers you get in this forum and most others will be vague..... so just a suggestion from to you dont expect for someone to do the work for you you need to do it yourself...those are my answers and my reply ...like it or lump it!!! |

I have only 1 other tanning salon close to me, and I live right next to the only big mall for 30 miles!! When I opened, they were charging 25.00 a month. So, I charged 25.00 to be competitive, even thought my beds are much better and my space is much nicer. However, when the season pics up and I am able to actually break even, I will raise my rates and I dont care what she charges. I have more to offer my customers. I'm starting cheap, but I don't expect to lose many customers when I raise rates because I have great beds and a lot of extras for my clients. You may consider starting cheap to the get the business, but offering specials, child care, bonuses for regular customers, and lotion storage will keep customers when you raise rates.

Sorry ~ but that is insane.
You have better equipment and a nicer salon and you are going to charge $25.00 a month unlimited???? You cannot START cheeeep and expect your clients to ACCEPT an increase to normal rates for cripes sake. set your prices HIGH... KEEP em HIGH and offer SALES based on those prices - - - you want to do a 25$ a month unlimited??? Make sure they understand it is an Introductory for 1st time clients only.... Sorry to be crabby but you need to reconsider. |

Sheila probably had the best advice so far. Definately don't underprice your services. If $25 becomes $40 your customers are not going to see the added value. Who says they even know about the other salon. Are far as you're concerned you are the best salon in the area. If people want to go to your competition you need to figure out why and fix it. Jacking up your prices is going to send your customers to your competition and word travels fast. Charge top dollar and deliver top tans. Don't make anyone say otherwise. If they say "well the guy down the street is charging..." then explain that you use top end equipment and can gaurantee top results. If you can't tell someone this to their face with 100% confidence than you will struggle. |
