You need to study the demographics of your area. This site is a good place to learn. At the top is a search feature where you can look for topics of interest. Do you have any kind of business background? There is so much more to know than I orginally thought. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! It will save you a lot of heartache later. Good Luck! Keep us posted on your plan.

Pam is right. Do your research here, there, and everywhere. Keep in mind that what you think you may want to do could change with your research so don't get stuck on any particular idea until it's time. Call some of the Bed Reps. and let them help you with things like demographics while you work on your business plan. Don't commit until you are good and ready. You will be working on construction, leasing, financing, and business plan all at once so have plenty of no dose and Tylenol on hand. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask what you think might be a silly question.

At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot...How do I go about studying the demographics of my area? I really want to open a salon, and have for a long time, but I want to be sure to do it right the first time (I don't want to be running in circles). I'm taking my very first step to accomplish this by being here. Is it even time to start thinking about a name for my salon, or is that much later?

HT is correct. A great place to start (besides here!) is with a bed rep. They can help you determine what your area can support. Tap into the knowledge they have. Do you have a bed distributor in your area? Let us know where you are--maybe we can give some suggestions.

Naming your Salon is probably the one safe thing you can do at this point. Even that is subject to change though, once you realize that someone else already has it. If you are really tied to it, go ahead and see about registering that name at least on the county level. That is pretty cheap. As for running in circles, I can't tell you that won't happen. Hey, but it's fun in a twisted sort of way. Take your time, do as Pam suggested and it will hopefully be worth it in the long run.
