When I ran a salon, I also had a problem w/ a client calling social services. It wasn't a big deal b/c I do have my teaching certificate in CO and I am also CPR certified, but you are liable for them while they are in your salon. It is up to your decretion. Tanners do like the fact that you offer it, though. I can tell you that!

I am opening a new salon in the city I live in and I have an 8 year old that has been helping my get things done. She has made the remark about being at the salon when it opens. She has set aside a room for her TV and video game for now. It is an unoccupied room for the time being and I see no harm in her being there. That is one reason why I started my own salon was so I could involve my daughter in it. Any opinions

We tell parents that we are not responsible and that if a child has a need or is a problem we will shut off their bed. Also, we will not take them to bathroom. If they can't take care of business themselves we get mom out of bed.

As far as having your kids at work.....sometimes during the summer a couple of my employees bring their kids (like 1 at a time). Most of the time it is okay because they are well behaved. Also in the office we have a TV/VCR so they can bring tapes and stay entertained. During Busy season, I would say no.

No, don't do it. There is so much more you have to worry about, like being sued.

DO NOT DO IT!!!!Having had stood infront of a judge... for this exact topic...i can't begin to stress enough DO NOT DO IT....once the door is shut...the salon takes responsibility in the courts eye...What happened??
4 year old walked out lost for 1/2 hour..mother freeking, police searching, social services demanding my daycare license...On court day,
I went first extremely apologetic, this will never happen again...
Mom up next, it's her fault she did'nt watch him...
I got a 10,000 suspended fine...as long as i never get caught again...
Mom, parenting classes, $1000 fine... from the judge " ---Tans is obviously not a daycare facility... WHERE ELSE DO YOU CHECK YOUR KIDS AT THE DOOR"

I have a area where children can sit and watch tv, read books, or play, but it is not desinated for children. IF you advertise that you supply childcare, for legal reason in certain states you must have a certified childcare provider in the salon. I have a sign stating we are not responsible for children left unattended by the client, and I do assure them that they will be ok, but if they get out of hand off goes the bed.

I still would not encourage people to leave their children unattended. We have some that do and I don't refuse to let them but I surely don't encourage it!!!!

My daughter is at the salon almost daily. She was 8 when we bought it and is now 10. She is a tremendous help and one day will be a paid employee. Why not train 'em young. My clients know her , she is very professional at the salon and even knows how to make appointments. As far as others... how can I say no when mine is there. We are not responsible and they have to sit or off goes the bed. I have never had any problems (it must be the mean teacher face I can give.hehehe)

POST A SIGN " UNATTENDED CHILDREN WILL BE SOLD AS SLAVES". THEY GET THE MESSAGE. I`VE ONLY HAD TO SELL A FEW OF THEM.
